Mr. Truman Swathmore Bennett, 88, departed his earthly life on May 31, 2025, at the Genesis Meridian Center in High Point, NC. He was born in High Point, NC, on September 1, 1936, to the late Thomas and Mentha Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Raper Bennett.
Truman graduated from William Penn High School in 1954. He first worked as a projectionist at the Ritz Theater, where he captivated audiences with his skillful operation of the projector. Later, he was employed at Tobias Clothing Store and Danco Industry in High Point, NC.
He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, now known as St. Paul Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his brother, Beverly Bennett; nephew, Bruce (Melissa McNair) Rogers; niece, Robin (Terry) Taylor; great nephews and nieces, Chamyria McNair, Ch ‘Kimberly McNair, Ch’Tauna Rogers, Tony Taylor, Jr., Justin (Irene) Taylor and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 13, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at New Beginnings Full Gospel Ministries. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Mr. Bennett may be viewed at Phillips Funeral Service on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
