Today, we gather to honor and remember the life of Mrs. Betty Jones Amason born in Marlboro County, SC on February 22, 1960. She was preceded in death by mother, Geraldine Mack whom we know she is now reunited with in peace. She peacefully departed on May 4, 2025 and lived a life marked by touching the hearts of all who knew her.
She honorably served four years in the United States Army before continuing her dedication to public service through a career with the Police Department as an officer and later with the Department of Corrections, where she demonstrated a deep commitment to social work and to supporting underserved communities.
She carried herself with dignity, independence, and with the unshakable energy that told you: She’s got this. Even in her hardest moments, she hung in there not for herself, but for us, the people she loved more than anything in this world. Her love was like her, very strong, sometimes stern, but always comforting. There was something deeply reassuring about her presence. You knew you were safe with her. You knew she had your back. And if you stepped out of line, she’d let you know but always with love. A love that taught us to stand tall, to be kind, to fight when it mattered, and to never give up. She loved her family fiercely and yes, we all know she also loved her two German Shepherds with an intensity that may have been above all else.
She was private, protective, and preferred to carry her own burdens, never wanting to add to ours. That’s just who she was. And though she fought to stay because she loved us and we loved her it was God’s will to bring her home. While our hearts ache with the loss, there is peace in knowing that she is finally at rest. No more pain. No more struggle. Only light, and an unimaginable love. So today, we don’t just mourn her, we honor her. We carry her strength in our bones, her wisdom in our hearts, and her love in everything we do moving forward.
She is survived by husband, Glenn Amason; children Kiah Amason; Adam Dunn; Johnathan Dunn (Whitney Dunn); grandson, Johnathan White; sister, Traci Mack (spouse Ken Jackson); brother, Ronnie Mack (Jamie Mack); brother, Gregory Mack (Heidi Mack); brother, Terry Mack (Shelia Mack); father, Theodore Mack; and friend of the family, Terrell Smith who will carry her love forward.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Matters of the Heart Life Ministries, 406 Ennis Street, High Point, NC. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Amason may be viewed on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Philips Funeral Service, Inc.

Though I did not have the privilege of knowing Aunt Betty well, I understand the enduring power of family bonds. Her life, like a distinct and important instrument in the orchestra of our lineage, has contributed to the symphony of who we all are. May you find solace in each other, and may the memories of her life provide a comforting melody during this time of sorrow. May the final notes of this passage be a peaceful resolution, a quiet understanding of a life lived and now remembered. With heartfelt sympathy,
I loved working BJ. I worked with her at the prison. She had a servant's heart and showed each day. I am praying for her family and friends.
