Elizabeth Johnson Cole of High Point, NC transitioned from this earthly life on January 6, 2026 at Hospice of the Piedmont (Hospice Home at High Point). She was born in Bennettsville, SC on April18,1937 to Lousie Campbell Miller and Harry Johnson. She was known by many of her friends as “Lib”. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Gwendora Gibson; and brothers, Daniel Johnson and Robert Broddy.
In 1975, Elizabeth began working at Styrex Industries. She was there for over 20 years and then went to work for Leggett & Platt until she retired in 2008.
When in good health, she enjoyed gardening, canning, search-a-word puzzles, cooking, and baking sweet potato pies. Elizabeth was a dedicated member of Olga Ave. Church of Christ. She loved going to church. Though her health was deteriorating, she still talked about going back to church someday.
Elizabeth will be remembered for her willingness to help others and not expecting anything in return. One of her favorite sayings was “Give me my flowers while I am alive.” She loved her flowers and her home was filled with them – some she acquired on her own, but many were given to her by those who loved her.
Surviving loved ones to cherish memories of Elizabeth are daughters, Janie Archie and Deborah York both of the home, and Wanda Gibson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; son, Thomas (Tonya) York of High Point; sister, Mary Austin of High Point; grandchildren, Jeffrey Clinton, Nicole Mayfield, Charita Archie, Jamal York, Jonathan Mayfield, and Geordan Gibson; great grandchildren, Nykhari Mayfield, Kamareon Pierce, Nymiah Mayfield, Nevaeh Emerson, Harmony Ledbetter, and Serenity Clinton. She had a special relationship with Deborah Hough and close friends, Laura Curtis and Katie McNeil. There are also nieces, nephews, and other friends who will fondly remember her. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. at Friendly Avenue Church of Christ, 5101 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27410. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice Home of High Point or Olga Avenue Church of Christ, High Point, NC.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
