On the morning of Tuesday, June 25, 2024, surrounded by family, Fannie Catherine Rickett Green Bell peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sandy and Lola Rickett; Douglas Green, Sr.; her sons, Bobby Green, Douglas Green, Jr., Larry Green, and Vernon Green; and her husband, Thomas Bell.
Best known as “Cat Bell,” she was born on May 28, 1932, in Bennettsville, SC.
She was educated in the Marlboro County Public School System. After her union to the late Douglas Green, Sr., she relocated her family to High Point, NC. In her new home place, Catherine took great pride in being a dedicated mother to her seven children. She was a long-time employee of Carolina Springs before discovering her gift of caring for others. She earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification and began caring for families throughout the High Point Community. Outside of work, Catherine regularly provided meals and shelter for those in need. Many that she helped fondly referred to her as “Momma” as an acknowledgement of her generosity.
Catherine’s strong love of God was evident through her community service. She was a dedicated member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for over 70 years, where she attended the Marion H. Bass Sunday School Class and was a member of the Christian Stewardship. While caring for her family and community, Catherine met and married the late Thomas Bell. From their union, they added a son to the family, making Catherine a proud mother of eight. After retirement, Catherine enjoyed reading her Bible and listening to gospel quartets, especially The Canton Spirituals.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, James A. (Sharon) Green, Sarah (late Henry) Young, Eva Bryant, and Timothy “Bell” Green, all of High Point, NC; special cousins, Edith Davis, Viola Ewings, and Swindell Curtain; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Monday, July 1, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
