Obituary For Mrs. Hannah Harrington
Mrs. Hannah York Harrington, daughter of the late Pierce and Fannie Mae York, was born December 31, 1924, in Marlboro County, SC. Our Lord and Savior called our beloved home to eternal rest on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her home in High Point, NC. Raised in Marlboro County, NC she met and married the late Henry Jerome Harrington and from this union of sixty-five years, nine children were born. Henry and Hannah relocated their family from Hamlet, NC to High Point, NC in 1954 where they settled and raised their nine children.
Mrs. Hannah Harrington, affectionately known to her close family members as Sis, was educated in the Scotland County School system. After settling into her family and home life in High Point she opened her in home Day Care in 1966. Spending the next thirty-eight years caring for children. She found joy in providing those she cared for with a loving setting while in her care. Her service in the community led her to be a member of the Burns Hill Community Women’s Club. In her free time, she enjoyed reading her Bible, solving word search and crossword puzzles, sewing, cooking, and tending to her flowers. You would always see her nurturing her flowers as she did the children that were placed in her care. She also loved sitting on her front porch with her little dog Mylie.
Hannah’s early confession of her faith drew her to seek a closer relationship with God. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Livingston Chapel in Ghio, North Carolina. She continued her growth at New Hope Baptist Church in Hamlet, NC. After moving to High Point, she joined First Emmanuel Baptist Church and later became a member and Mother of New Beginnings Full Gospel Ministries. She cherished Psalm 91:16, finding comfort in its message: “With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Her faith was a guiding light in her life, bringing her peace and strength throughout her life.
Hannah was a beacon of love, wisdom, and strength. As the cherished matriarch of her family, she embodied the sacred calling to nurture, uplift, teach and guide. Leaving an impression on everyone she met. In doing this, she opened her home as a sanctuary for children, offering them not only care but the warmth of unconditional love, planting seeds of kindness and faith in their hearts.
A woman of immeasurable wisdom, Hannah’s presence reflected divine grace. Her words carried truth, her lessons carried love, and her embraces felt like refuge. Her devotion to family and community reflected the generous spirit she carried every day of her life.
In celebration of the milestone of her 100th birthday, she received a heartfelt letter from Mayor Cyril Jefferson, recognizing her century of life, love, and dedication. It was a testament to the profound impact she had on her community, honoring the kindness and wisdom she had shared over the decades. Hannah’s life reflected the values that shape strong communities today-compassion, service, and the importance of intergenerational connection. She fostered an environment of care and learning, ensuring that every child in her home daycare felt supported and loved, leaving a legacy that continues in the lives that she touched.
Though she has stepped beyond this world, her influence lives on in the hearts of those she nurtured. Her legacy remains in the lives she shaped, the wisdom she shared, and the love she so freely gave. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered, her spirit woven into the memories and lives of those blessed enough to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her husband the late Henry Jerome Harrington, her sons, Ulysses Harrington, Alton Harrington and her daughters, Shelia Harrington and Sandra Harrington; her grandson, Antonio Colson and great grandsons, Rychon Hawkins, Keyon Brooks; her siblings, Nelia White, J.W. York, Maddie York, Nathaniel York, Ellis York, Pierce York, Jr., Thomas Lee York, Horace York, and James Franklin York.
She leaves to celebrate her life: her devoted children, Kathleen Lindsay, Henry Lee Harrington (Jeanette), Earlene Harrington, Annetta Harrington and Dwayne Harrington and a daughter in law, Michelle Harrington and Nell Harrington; one sister-in-law, Lestine Crawford; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and twenty-one great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, friends and adopted children.
May she find rest in the arms of the Lord, surrounded by the love she shared so effortlessly. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” ~Matthew 25:23
Forever in Our Hearts
Her hands once held us, warm and strong, Her love was deep, her faith lifelong. She gave us comfort, strength, and grace, A guiding light in every place.
Her laughter danced like morning light; Her wisdom made the world so bright. She taught us kindness, joy and peace, Her love and care will never cease.
Though she has left, we stand so tall, Her legacy lives within us all. In memories cherished, love so true, Forever, Mother, we honor you.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at New Beginnings Full Gospel Ministries. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Harrington May be viewed on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
