Obituary For Mrs. Inez Currie

Mrs. Inez Delores Currie passed away at Hospice of the Piedmont on August 24, 2026, at the age of 80. A resident of High Point, NC. She was born to the late Kenneth Sylvester and Elizabeth Blondell Spencer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Brook, and siblings Reginald Spencer, Vardry Spencer, Kenneth Spencer, Rose Gillespie, and Beverly Byers.

Inez was a proud graduate from William Penn High School class of 1964. She was a devoted member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, where she took great pride in her role as an usher. A woman of faith, she believed in God and was committed to serving the church faithfully. Throughout her career, she worked as an accountant for General Motors, but retirement did not stop her from serving her community. She took a new position at a local pharmacy, where her big heart became evident to everyone around her. Inez had an infectious smile and adored the customers, who loved her in return. Often, when elderly patrons couldn't afford their medications, Inez would pay for their prescriptions herself because she couldn't bear to see them go without.

She had a sharp mind and a particular sweet tooth. Crossword puzzles were a favorite daily pastime, as were treats like a slice of lemon meringue pie or a scoop of butter pecan ice cream—simple pleasures that brought her immense happiness. She also cherished the bowling lanes. For many years, she participated in a coed bowling league in Saginaw, Michigan, alongside her coworkers and her husband, George. Later, she continued this tradition by teaching her grandson how to bowl. Most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her beloved husband of 61 years, George Currie. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandon Howard (Alyssa) and Kennady Plowden, along with her great-granddaughter, Zoey Howard; special nephew, Michael Byers; niece, Tammie Gillespie; sisters-in-law, Frances Greene and Ann Currie and a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Solid Rock Baptist Church 903 East Kearns Avenue. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.

Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.

Inez, you will always be one of the most important people of my childhood. You and George looked after me like I was one of your own grandchildren whenever Brandon and I were together and that will always means the world to me. You were there for the shared trips, the dinners, the bowling tournaments, the sleepovers, all the moments I've come to cherish so much as I've gotten older. Brandon, George, I love y'all and please know the Macks will forever be there for you even when we're miles apart.
