Mrs. Mamie Ruth Davis Autry was born in Ansonville, NC, to the late Albert Davis, Sr., and Eva Mae Timmons Davis. She peacefully entered eternal rest at The Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center in Jamestown, NC, on December 22, 2024. She lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
In addition to her parents, Mamie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph V. Autry, her daughter, Odessa Cox; sons, Bernard Cox and Tony Cox. She also reunited in glory with six sisters and two brothers, all of whom she loved deeply and held close to her heart.
Mamie's faith was her foundation, and her membership at Friendship Baptist Church in Thomasville, NC, was a cornerstone of her life. She found joy in singing in the Gospel Choir and a passion for working humbly in various roles at the church, serving on the Usher Board, Nursing Board, Kitchen Committee, and Pastor's Aid Committee. Her work was to glorify God.
In addition to her spiritual devotion, Mamie worked with pride and diligence for 16 years at Thomasville Furniture until retirement. She was a woman of unshakable faith, limitless love, and boundless grace. A woman of wisdom and the glue that held the family together. Because she "Put God First" at all times.
Mamie will forever be remembered for her pride and joy: her children, James (Norma) Cox, Joyce Cox, Lynette Reed, and Clifton Autry. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Davis, Jr., and sisters, Mable McRae, Bessie Jones, and Emma Mae Davis. Mamie was a proud grandmother of ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and others whose lives she touched with her kindness and grace.
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 106 Smith St., Thomasville, NC. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
