Marcella Turner Johnson entered her earthly life on March 3, 1952, born from parents, Arthur Turner Sr. and Vivian Harps Turner Lizenby in Baltimore, MD. She departed this life on February 19, 2024, after a very long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Ida Mae Turner and Linda Faye Lindsey, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She and her siblings lived with their grandmother Jonell for many years. They soon moved to High Point NC, where she attended William Penn and later Andrews High School. Her work experience included High Point Housing Authority, Silver Knit Hosiery Mill, W&J Rives, and Apac Industries.
Marcella met her husband, Walter Johnson, on the evening of July 4, 1968 at Washington Terrace Park. At the end of the night, he asked if he could drive her home and she accepted. They began dating and later married on February 13, 1970. From this marriage came two children, Audria Denise Johnson and Wali Dhaamin Johnson. She was also stepmother to Laverne Rice and a bonus mom to Faye Parker (Jerry), Terry L. Lee (James), and Terreca A. Foster (Kenneth).
Walter and Marcella remained together for 56 years and recently celebrated their 54th anniversary this past February. Marcella was the love of Walterβs life. They traveled to Florida several times during their youth to visit the beautiful beaches and theme parks and promised themselves one day they would retire to Florida, and that dream came true in August 2021.
Marcella joined Temple Memorial Baptist Church in 1985 where she would become a member of the Choir and later a Missionary. She was a mentor to many and provided comfort and compassion to ailing church members. On February 19, 1994, she and her family suffered a tragedy as six family members were lost in a car accident in High Point, her only brother, Arthur C. Turner, Jr., sister, Gloria Turner, nieces, Patrice Turner, Kierra Turner, and Brandy Turner, and cousin, Colandus Lindsay. Their lives were mourned by many citizens across Guilford County.
She is survived by her husband, Walter, children, Audria, Dhaamin, and Laverne, her only grandchild, Hannah Patrice Johnson, who was the greatest joy of her life, sisters, Curtistine Turner, Cheryl D. Turner, Deborah L. Boston (Eric) and Tracy Turner; two like sisters, Wanda D. Quick and Linda Quick; sister-in-law, Violet Bailey (Purcell), brothers-in-law, Micheal Dunn, Archie Johnson (Pamela), Darrell Dunn (Jackie), and James Dunn, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc
