Margie LeGrand Armstrong, 92, departed this life Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Accent Care Hospice Center in Baltimore, MD. She was born in Anson County, NC on February 20, 1932, the daughter of the late Lee and Mamie Burton LeGrand.
Margie was educated at High Point City Schools. She was employed as a cook with High Point City Schools until 1968, when she moved to Baltimore, MD where she became a cook at St. Joseph Hospital. She was also a school bus monitor with Citywide Bus Company in Baltimore, MD. She returned to North Carolina in 2023.
Margie loved to travel and cook (she thought she could cook better than anybody). She was also a die-hard Baltimore Ravens Fan.
Margie was preceded in death by her sisters, Pattie Mae Dockery and Margeret Miller; a brother, Rogers LeGrand; her daughter, Myrtle (Faye) Colson Gaines, and a grandson, Ronald Claytor Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter Sherry (Ronald) Claytor; a brother-in-law, Rev. David Dockery; grandchildren, Edward (Yvanne) Claytor, John Claytor, Margie Gaines, Herbert (Suzanne) Gaines, and Marion Claytor; 14 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
