Send flowers to the service of Mrs. Pattie Evelyn Gales
Our family's matriarch has crossed over to ancestral territory. Although, we are saddened and in mourning, We are comforted knowing her joy is now restored.
Her favorite holiday was Christmas. On that day, for at least the last 55 years a host of family and friends gathered at Mamma Pattie's house. It was there I learned to be proud of my brown skin; less than 5 years old, I witnessed Mamma Pattie paint all of her nativity characters Black, including baby Jesus and oh and a ceramic Santa too.
Every year,Mamma Pattie would hand out two crisp; $2 dollar bills to all the kids under 12 years old in memory the of her father. Her Christmas tree was decorated not with ornaments; but with ribbons of pictures she had collected of family members across our life-span. We understood the importance of heritage. And after a forced a Christmas carol we would say a prayer before enjoying dinner. (I can hear her reminding my mom to keep the prayer short and not forget to include a grace). Mamma Pattie was quite about her Spiritual beliefs, but dedicated to acts of service to the Lord.she made it clear that although we may make mistakes in life; we always had a shelter in our faith.
She taught us to love, to work, to forgive, to speak the truth, to be of service to our community, and that family bonds are vital, she also to keep a welcome mat to whomever was in need of a family.
Mamma Pattie, good and faithful servant, take your seat at our ancestor table, feast as your labor is done! Our tears are from gratitude. We understand you needed rest. Continue to watch over us and guide us with your wisdom.
May a smile spread across our faces each time you cross our thoughts. We are a better family all because of you! Our Mamma Pattie!
Sending love and prayers to her sister, Mother Cora Caviness and her niece, Mrs. Pamela Woody on the passing of Ms. Pattie. May God wrap his loving arms around you both now and in the days to come along with the rest of the family. Love you all too and ain't nothing you can do about it! Beverly A. Harris, Mt. Gilead, NC
