Obituary For Mrs. Sadie Ester Colbert
Sadie Hill Colbert, daughter of the late Elias and Alice Hill, was born on September 22, 1923 in Lancaster, SC. On June 14, 2023, Sadie answered the Lord’s call and peacefully transitioned to eternal rest at the age of 99.
Sadie was one of three children whom preceded her in death, Leroy “L.C.” Hill and Edgar “Garland” Hill. Sadie was also preceded in death by her husband, Grover Colbert; daughter, Arnesta Carter; son-in-law, Andre Carter Sr.; grandson, Shaun Colbert; and grandson, Andre Carter Jr.
She attained her educational requirements from the Lancaster County Public School System. She confessed her love for Christ at an early age and accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. She was a devoted and dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, Philippian Baptist Church and One in Christ. Through the years, Sadie worked at Flyback Factory and Veneer Factory. She worked at the Child Developmental Daycare Center until she retired.
Sadie was very fond of attending the annual Mt Carmel AME Zion Church Camp Meeting in Lancaster. Sadie enjoyed church, gardening, traveling the world, spending time with her loved ones and watching her favorite shows, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness, goodness and heart of gold. Her infectious laugh could light up any room and her sweet potato pie would bring the most delight. She cared so deeply for the people around her.
She made an impact on the many lives she encountered over the years. Sadie’s legacy will carry on forever reminding us to be sweet, keep God first and love one another. While Sadie’s name in Hebrew means princess, to her family she was our angel on Earth. She has now received her wings and we know that Heaven has truly gained an angel.
Sadie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cortez Colbert (Cynthia Colbert); Sinclair Colbert (Libby Goss); Gerald Colbert (Barbara Patterson-Colbert); Catrilla Griffin, Yeshiva Colbert-McDuffie (Preston McDuffie, Jr.) and Gloria Colbert. She is forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren, Ashli Colbert; Natasha Davis; Desiree Colbert; Darius Colbert; Brandon Colbert (Shaletha Colbert); Patrice Lee (Kenny Lee); Michael Colbert (Avery Blackwell, fiancée); Breonna McDuffie; Chanel Carter and Craig Carter. Sadie was fortunate to experience the love of 5 great-grandchildren. Her memory lives on with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Greater First United Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.

My heart is sadden to hear of the passing of Mrs. Sadie! She was truly a Proverbs 31 lady with a sweet sweet spirit and a heart of gold that will certainly be missed. My condolences to her children and family. Be encouraged to know that the many memories you have of your loving mother can and I am sure will be treasured for the rest of your life in order to keep her precious spirit alive within you. I will forever be grateful that God allowed me to meet such an earth angel, my grandmothers (Emmaline Alston) best friend. Mrs. Sadie Colbert was a highly respected and special Woman of God. I thank God for sharing her life with us. Sinclair is my high school classmate. I taught Yeshiva at HP Central. I worked with Mr. Grover Colbert at HP Central HS. Cortez Colbert was a student at HP Central when I was there. It is just so special to remember the times shared with Colbert through the years.
