Angela Anita Griffin was born on July 15, 1956, in High Point, NC, a daughter of the late Richard and Juanita Simmons Griffin. She made her transition from this life on December 1, 2022, at Hospice Home at High Point.
Fondly known to her family and friends as “Cookie,” Angela attended Trinity High School, where she was the first and only African American majorette in the school’s history. She furthered her education at Davidson-Davie Community College in the degree programs of Criminal Justice/Paralegal and Technology. Angela was employed by various companies throughout the years, including most recently with The Shepherd House in Greensboro, NC, as a program specialist; however, her joy was working in construction. She worked in that field with S&ME as a Senior Engineering Technician, Soil Tech Engineering as a Quality Assurance, and the NCDOT as a Construction Tech I, for a total of 30 years. Over the years, Angela remained in contact with many of her colleagues.
Angela attended St. Stephen Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in her youth, where she sang with the Voices of Zion Young Adult Choir. She later enjoyed serving at St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church in Wilmington, NC, under the now Senior Bishop Dennis V. Proctor. All who knew Cookie, knew she lived her life on her terms. She enjoyed family functions, mentoring, shopping, reading, journaling Bible Scriptures to guide her life, and listening to music. She was especially fond of The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
Angela leaves to cherish her memories three brothers, Jessie J. Griffin of Detroit, MI, Richard L. Griffin, Jr. (Sharon) of Greensboro, NC, and Tony B. Griffin of Trinity, NC; one sister, Tracye Y. Griffin of High Point, NC; two aunts, Betty Griffin Clinton, and Sarada Simmons Boyd of High Point, NC; longtime family friend/confidant, Carolyn Belo of Trinity, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, 4344 Blackberry Road, Greensboro, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
