Ms. Mary Ellen Loyd, 85, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Hospice of the Piedmont, High Point, North Carolina. She was born April 18, 1939, in Franklin County, NC, the daughter of Jeff and Reola Massey.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Chavis of High Point, and a brother from Monroe, NC.
Mary completed her associate's degree in business administration at Brookstone College in Greensboro, NC. She dedicated most of her adult career to healthcare, starting her journey at Wesleyan Arms in High Point, NC, and later, High Point Regional Hospital, where she devoted herself to providing high-quality care until her well-deserved retirement.
Mary loved spending quality time with her family and friends, having fun, laughing, and telling jokes. She never met a stranger. She loved shopping, especially thrifting, to find unique and stylish pieces. Mary's keen eye for fashion and her love for exquisite scents and beautiful jewelry were distinctive elements of her personal style.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Willis LaShay Covington of High Point, NC; her close niece, Lutricia Mirwani of High Point, NC; two grandchildren, LaToya Murphy of High Point, NC, and Willis Covington of Clemmons, NC; eight great-grandchildren, a host of great-nephews and nieces many friends and loved ones.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
