Today, we celebrate the life of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Nellie Gray Holloman-Holland, who made her transition from this life on March 15, 2022. She was born on August 2, 1943, in Hertford County, NC, a daughter of the late Daraious and Beatrice Holloman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leo; four brothers, Edward (Barbara), Alton (Anita), Robert (Velma), and Wallace (Lenora).
Nellie was active in church as an usher, choir member, and an Eastern Star member until her health prevented her from attending services and meetings regularly. She was always willing to help anyone that needed a helping hand.
Nellie was an avid baker, as many people requested her service to make cakes for them. We do remember the caramel pineapple cakes, red velvet cakes, sock it to me cakes, five flavor pound cakes, 7-Up cakes, and her famous potato pies. We also remember those favorite goodies and the time she invested in making a cake. We thank God for her gift and her smile.
She leaves to cherish many, many great memories with her two daughters, Charlene Orr (Roderick) of Asheboro, NC, and Constance Beverly of Greensboro, NC; a brother, Reverend Jesse Holloman (Sharon) of Ahoskie, NC; two sisters, Diann Craft of High Point, NC, and Elder Mary Beasley (Eugene) of Ahoskie, NC; three grandsons, Darius Broadie, Quincey Walters, and Christopher Redfern; a great-grandson, O’Shea Ross; a special nephew, Andrel’ Graham, who was her chauffer and helped her run many errands; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
