No one prayed like Rev. Bass! No one sang like Rev. Bass!  When he finished one of his heart-stirring prayers with his rendition of 'Sweet Hour of Prayer' in that well trained,  melodious voice of his, my soul was good and satisfied! To the Bass Family, and the Mt.Vernon Baptist Church Family, we share in your loss. Rev. Bass has been an active pillar of this community all of his life, and he will be sorely missed. May God hold each of you in the hollow of his hand, as you navigate this time of great loss. When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. We will all treasure his memory. My deepest condolences to the family and members of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. May the LORD GOD comfort and give you all peace knowing that he loved and lived a life of influence and impact. My family and I loved to host family dinners where this great man of God would come sit at my aunt Betty and uncle JW Kersey's table and expound on the word of God. He was a competitive chess player whom my father, Alfred McCormick, enjoyed challenging. Rev. Bass was a true Gospel preacher fluent in homiletics. He and my daughter shared a birthday (Aug 25th) and he would call and support her as she matriculated through school and her. The Boyd Family wishes to convey deep sorrows and extend many prayers to the Bass Family on the loss of Reverend Fredrick Bass, Jr. Since 1979, many generations of Boyds, Chappelles, Haleys and Andersons have worshipped, listened and followed the Ministry of the Bible, heard soul stirring prayers and really enjoyed his singing voice at Mount Vernon Baptist, 716 Leonard Street. His ability to recite and interpret Bible Scripture was remarkable. Thank you Reverend Bass for your dedication and service on Sundays.

I would like to thank God for sharing young Frederick who had a delightful quick witted spirit and for Reverend Bass who had the ability to prophesize and who also shared God's love for us through his words and actions. Bass..A wonderful spiritual man of God with a voice when he spoke you would listen .When he would pray it came from his heart .He knew history from a to z .When I joined the choir he said to me I didn't know you could sing I said I can't just wanted to join the choir ..Then one day at a funeral he song sweet hour of prayer and I said to him I didn't know you could sing he said to me now you know. Lol then we laughed ..Then as time went by I learned something else about the pastor he loved to clean a chicken breast like I do . We all have our own wonderful stories to tell about this wonderful person call Rev Bass ..God is our strength of our hearts in time he will wipe our tears from our eyes he will give us joy ,peace and strength in day's to come ..RIP Rev Bass until hopefully we will meet again.. Occasionally, the world is graced with an exceptionally special person; Rev. Fredrick O. Bass, Jr. was one of those people. He steadfastly stood on the promises of God and leaves a rich legacy and indelible imprint on the many lives he touched. I will always cherish the warm and fond memories of our fun and sometimes mischievous antics during our growing up years into adulthood. My condolences are extended to the Bass family and the Mt.
