Williamson, Mr. Arthur, A resident of Montgomery, AL departed this life on Friday, March 26, 2021. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 at 11:00AM from Lily Baptist Church, Letohatchee, AL, Pastor Fletcher Fountain, officiating. Mr. Williamson lie in state on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 12-6PM from Phillips- Riley Funeral Home.

Arthur Williamson “Arthur Jr.” was born October 31, 1942 in Lowndes County (Sandy Ridge), Alabama, the son of Willie and Alice Russell. At an early age, Arthur confessed in Christ and joined the Beautiful Zion A.M.E Zion Church in Sandy Ridge, Alabama. He also regularly attended Lily Missionary Baptist Church in Letohatchee, Alabama Arthur moved to Montgomery, Alabama in the early 1970’s. He met and married Georgia Gipson. He graduated from The Calhoun High School in 1962. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army where he served several years. During his time in the Army, he drove gas trucks for the army during the Vietnam War. Once he returned home from Vietnam, he attended Treholm Technical College where he became an auto mechanic and worked in this field for a few years. He then worked at International Paper in Prattville, Alabama where he was a shipper. He worked over 30 years at International Paper. He was the owner and operator of A.W. Grass Cutting Service. Arthur always enjoyed his family and friends. He was very outgoing, loved to laugh, tell jokes and have fun. He was a grill master, loved to travel, and go to family reunions. He was a dedicated member of R. H. Rice 345, Shaaban Temple, Prince Hall Consistory 19, and the United Supreme Council. Arthur was preceded in death by his daughter Aretina Williamson; three sisters, Elouise “Ella” Russell, Madie Thompson, and Fannie Mae Patterson “Suge”, five brothers, John T. Roberts, Willie George Russell, Willie Bo Russell, Bellie Russell and Eddie Russell. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife Georgia Gipson Williamson; two daughters Melissa (Marcus) Turk, John’s Creek GA and Melanie Williamson Lithonia, GA; two grandchildren Marissa Turk and Maxwell Turk and one God grandson Jarius Swanson; one sister, Mary Helen Vaughn, Louisville KY; one brother(nephew), James (Gwendlyn) Russell “Richard” Atlanta, GA; five sister-in-law's, Jennie Hatchett, Callie Jones, Francis Sunday, Maggie (David) Hale and Geraldine Gipson; one brother in law, Johnny (Dorothy) Gipson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special friends: Foster (Plummie) Ware, Frank (Theresa) Brooks, Freeman (Jean) White, and Robert Smith. “The Favorites”: Deloris Stone, Gwendlyn Powell, April Johnson, Regina McDougal, Kassandra McGhee, Jazmin Jones, Janice McGhee, Adrianne Swanson and Aubrey Thompson.
