I first met Mabel on the day of my wedding in June 1980. My mother had been introduced to her when Mabel applied for a cleaning position in our house and she immediately knew this kind woman would be the perfect caregiver for any noisy babies who might have been snuggled into the church during the wedding. (I recall she was very disappointed that no one dared bring an infant to our wedding.) After that Mabel became a fun-loving but meticulous addition to our family. Eventually other families in our church learned of her skills and good nature and Mabel ended up working for at least 6 different families including our friends the Tapiés. Our two sons were born and loved to follow Mabel and her infectious laughter as she worked her way through our house.
The last time I saw Mabel was after she had moved back South when she traveled back to Ohio for Bill Tapié's memorial service. Of course we hugged and laughed, both of us drawing startled looks from the other mourners. I called each of our now grown sons so they could talk and laugh and reminisce with her as well.
I thought of Mabel often and always hoped we'd meet again. Rest well, my friend. You were a kind, loving free spirit who will be remembered and missed by all you left behind.
I loved making Mabel laugh when she'd walk into our house by doing my impression of my mother for her! What a special, sweet, spirited person she was. Yes, my sister was correct, when I was replaced as host of a popular TV show, she went on a campaign! They eventually hired me back, so...the power of Mabel was not to fooled with! Especially in the kitchen. Her banana pudding was so delicious, so delectable, well, it was truly indescribable! She wouldn't give out the recipe either and honestly it should have been that way. It remains that way in my mind, because it belonged only to our beloved Mabel. Our deepest condolences to the family.
Mabel was a wonderful person. I have such fond memories of her from my childhood. She filled the room with joy, and you couldn't help but join in her laughter. Her banana pudding was supreme, and we will never do it justice. She was special to our family. Sending you my deepest condolences.

We were blessed to know her.
Dearest Goins family, I awoke this morning thinking of dear Mabel because it is almost Easter and I realized it has been awhile since I wrote to her or she had sent me a greeting card. Oh my, I am greatly saddened to have discovered her passing. Mabel worked for my parents and me for many , many years. So many memories. How my dad made her laugh! When we went on vacations and she cleaned while we were away my daughter left her post it note greetings all over the house in funny places.when my brother Paul (a long time TV personality) lost his job) Mabel called the TV station over and over to protest! When my dad's health was declining Mabel would shoo Mom out of the house to have a break while she worked and watched over him. A special lady. We loved her like family. Our deepest sympathy to all of you. Krissie, Paul, Debbie, Katie, Kimmie, Bart
