My sincere condolences to the Smart family. May God bless and keep you.
Mary Ann was the wife of my esteemed mentor, musician educator Barney Smart to whom I owe my love of music.
Her husband Barney taught me to play the trumpet in the 5th grade in Georgiana, Alabama.
I'm not sure if I would've chosen the trumpet without his encouragement. I'm not sure if I would've pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity if it weren't for his positive attitude.
My family attended the wedding of Mary Ann (which I always called her) and Mr. Smart. She was opinionated and more like a big sister I never had. She made recommendations of my choices of girlfriends, cologne and any other thing if I listened... π
Lil Barney and Tory are my family as I remember their birth and the continuance of their lives. My Mother is their Aunt Ruby. My Dad was their Uncle Clarence. My Grandmother Granny was their grandmother. My family is their family forever.
Mary Ann was a joyous soul who loved her family and husband Mr. Smart through his passing years ago and beyond to her heavenly ascension now.
Rest in Heaven with Your husband now. I am certain you both are having a glorious time with whatever God allows and has in store for y'all. United once again.
All my love my Sister Mary Ann .β€οΈ
Your brother Anthony

Our families were bonded long ago... we watched the Patriarchs go ahead and that hurt us to our core. Little did we know they were getting things ready for Mama Smart. We will miss her dearly... and some days will be harder than others. But knowing that they are watching over us makes it just a little better. Love you guys!! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ The Miller/Still Family
