Obituary For Mrs. Carol W. Garrett

Celebration of Life service for Ms. Carol W. Garrett, age 56, of Gadsden, AL. will be held at 1p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Mission Baptist Church where Rev. Grady E. Robinson, Jr., Pastor, with Rev. David Benton, officiating. Interment will follow in Lincoln Hill Cemetery.

Carol Woods-Garrett, was born to the late Mr. Larry C. Woods, Sr. and Mrs. Dorothy Woods on July 5, 1960 in Gadsden, AL. She was called from this life on June 27, 2017 at Riverview Regional Medical Center.

Carol was a loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt who loved her three children, Granddaughter and dog Pierre. She was a kind hearted, generous and compassionate person she never left a belly empty or a back without a shirt. At the age of four years old her parents relocated to New York City, where Carol received her formal education in the New York City Public School System. She attended John Bowne High School and then went on to Queensborough Community College where she studied nursing.

On January 23, 1984 Carol was blessed with her eldest daughter Doretha. She was married on November 4, 1989 to Robert Anthony Garrett, Sr. to this union two children were born, Robert Jr. and Taylor Raine.

In 1999 Carol returned to Gadsden, Al. with her three children to give them a chance at having a better life while equally seeking a better life for herself. She worked at Little People’s Play-house, sang in her church choir and was an active woman in the community. In 2012 Carol decided to pursue her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development at Gadsden State Community College a goal that was halted by the loss of several loved ones and her health declining.

Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. Jim and Nuna Hatcher. Her eldest brother, Anthony Woods; Father, Mr. Larry C. Woods, Sr. and her youngest brother, Mr. Larry “ Kip” Woods, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her three children; Doretha (Edward) Woods, Robert( Quintoya) Garrett, Jr. and Taylor( Devin)Garrett all of Gadsden, Al; One granddaughter, Rileigh” Her sweetness ”Tolbert; Her pet children, Pierre “her true love”, Kobie, Carmela and Lily. Her loving mother, Mrs. Dorothy Woods; Two brothers, Michael( Darlene) Woods and Ravine ( Shirelle) Woods; One sister, Regina Woods. She leaves five nieces and three nephews; a host of great nieces, nephews; Special sons, Rev. David Benton and Edward Carmichael; Two of her closest friends Sheena Carlisle and Rebecca Buggs. She leaves a host of other family and friends.
