Celebration of Life for Thenickeal “Cuda”

October 31, 1975 – September 16, 2025

Today, we gather not in sorrow, but in gratitude — to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman: Thenickeal, known affectionately by those who loved her as Cuda, and simply Nikki to many.

Nikki lived her life with open arms and an even bigger heart. She had a gift — a rare and beautiful ability to make anyone feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether you were a close family member, an old friend, or a stranger she just met, Nikki had a way of making you feel like you mattered. That was her superpower.

She was known for her unwavering kindness, her instinct to help without hesitation, and her radiant presence that made every room a little warmer. Nikki didn’t just talk about love — she lived it. Her life was a beautiful example of compassion in action, of generosity without expectation, and of laughter that could lighten any heavy moment.

Her family and friends were her world. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by those she loved — sharing stories, making memories, or just being together in the quiet. She believed in showing up, in being present, and in holding space for others with genuine care.

And if you ever saw Nikki in her element, you'd likely hear her say her favorite word:

“Wow.”

Simple. Honest. Full of wonder — just like her.

That “wow” captured how she saw the world — with eyes open to beauty, to possibility, to the little moments that many of us might miss. It was her way of appreciating life’s wonders, both big and small.

Though her time with us feels far too short, Nikki’s impact is lasting. Her love echoes in the hearts of everyone she touched. Her kindness lives on in the ways we treat each other. And her spirit — vibrant, generous, and full of grace — will never be forgotten.

So today, let’s not say goodbye.

Let’s say thank you, Nikki.

Thank you for your love.

Thank you for your light.

Thank you for your "wow."

You will always be missed. And always be loved.

Thenickeal was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Lizzie Lee Cheley.

She is survived by her devoted mother, Florence Mathis of Warner Robins, GA; her loving brother, Christopher Mathis of Tacoma, WA; and her caring sister, Sherrie Mathis of Bonaire, GA.

She also leaves behind her cherished godson, Zykee Bogan of Warner Robins, GA, and her godbrother, Willie Shepard of Perry, GA.

Her extended family includes her uncle, Johnny Woodard of Miami, FL; aunt, Ruby Gasque of Brunswick, GA; uncle, Bruce Mathis of Lumber City, GA; and uncle, Larry Mathis of Bainbridge, GA.

Thenickeal is also remembered fondly by a host of nieces, cousins, and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.
