Dorothy Delores Seth
May 21, 1934 - October 17, 2025
Dorothy Delores (Lois) Seth, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025. Affectionately known as Lois, Dot or Ms. D., Lois was born May 21, 1934, in Washington, DC, to late parents, Josephine Hawkins Gray and Joseph Hezekiah Gray. Lois was the seventh of eight children.
Lois received her education in Prince George’s County, Maryland, attending Bowie Elementary, Lincoln Junior High, and Highland Park High Schools. She was an aspiring beautician and received formal training in the early 1960s from a beauty school in Northeast, Washington, D.C.
She was a creative soul with many talents! She sewed, crocheted, knitted, baked, created beautiful cakes for many occasions, catered events, prepared her legendary cabbage/carrots dish, baked cheesecakes, just to name a few of her talents! She worked for years as a dietician and nutritionist for the District of Columbia first at Oak Hill in Laurel, Maryland, then prepared meals at Bundy School for DC’s unhoused mothers and children living along the New York Avenue corridor. She was a fiercely independent woman who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind! She loved her family and was always open to trying new things!
Lois was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Largo, Maryland and resident of Landover. A diehard Redskins/Commanders fan, she loved her football team! Lois enjoyed downhome blues music and looked forward to attending the annual Bluebird Blues Festival at Prince George’s Community College.
Lois was predeceased by her loving siblings Hazel, Serena (Lupsy), Joseph (Joe), Ethel, Daniel, and George. She is survived by her devoted loving sister, Theresa Hart, and generations of loving family members who include devoted nieces and great nieces, Pamela Spriggs, LaVerne Law, Vicky Togans (Ted), Elaine Hart Green (Kent), Gwendolyn Green (Timothy), Jean Turner, Mae Gray, Michele Copeland, Cynthia Copeland, Kimberly Copeland and Nicole Copeland; loving nephews, Joseph Gray, Leonard Gray, Michael Gray and Gene Gray. Joe took great pride and care in planning and transporting our beloved Aunt Lois to ensure her presence at family gatherings and inclusion in other fun activities! The countless acts of kindness by multiple family members and friends are far too many to name and all were sincerely appreciated.
Lois’s life was one of service, love, and loyalty. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come!
