As I watched Michael A. Speaks grow up a few houses down from me on Halsted, he is remembered as an excellent young man. I was 5 years older but when we played football in the lot across the street on 88th, he was very determined. When we needed another player, he was always so happy to play. Even though he was short , he made up for it with his determination and played exceptionally well.
He saw me lifting weights and was inspired to lift himself so when I saw him a few years later, I was shocked for the muscles he had acquired. He made the Chicago Vocational High School football team and I was so happy for him.
He will always be remembered by our family with much love. He had a wonderful family and our families will always be connected from the many memories with he and his siblings.
His last visit to my family on Halsted was a few years ago and he wanted to repay my father for a loan he received many many years ago. The Dyse family of Halsted give our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. RIP
