Alicia, there are no words to express the utter sadness I feel and knowing I will never have the chance to laugh with you as we always did whenever I came to Montgomery. You always gave such wonderful advice! You were a wonderful mother, wife, sister, daughter...just a wonderful person. I've known you since the 2nd grade, and right now, I feel the absence of your presence in the world. You will always be my bright and shining star and I know whenever I am thinking of you, you will be looking down smiling! My lifelong friend and Soror :( Sharon Campbell Waters
To the Smiley family I send my deepest condolences. Alicia and I were line sisters when we were initiated into Gamma Theta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated at Hampton Institute. It was so good to see her and hear her voice as we celebrated our 50th anniversary via Zoom in October. I am blessed to have experienced the spirit of her friendship so many years ago as well as during our recent celebration. May her soul rest in the arms of the Divine Creator and her beautiful spirit live on in the memory of family and friends. Sorority sister Deborah Maryland Neal, Gamma Theta 1970
I light the pink candle for Soror Alicia. She was always a bright light! On October 10th, we had a Zoom call for our 50th Reunion as sorors of Gamma Theta Chapter at Hampton Institute - Golden 1970. Alicia helped with the music during our intermission as it was. She was eager to help. All of us are so-o-o- happy that we had this once in a lifetime virtual meeting. Only God knew that it would be our last encounter. In His wisdom, he has removed a precious one from amongst us. We will miss our dear soror. May those of you who are left, find comfort in the fact that she brought JOY to those around her. Shine on, my soror, shine on in your new home up there.
Harriet Brown Birk, Esquire Orlando, FL Golden Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
My sincere condolences to Alicia's family. Alicia and I were line sisters of AKA at Hampton. She stood in front of me every Ivy meeting and we would secretly giggle, talk and get in trouble! I am so glad we were able to see each other during our 50th Anniversary Zoom Celebration. May God BLess the family and may fond memories comfort you. Coeany Drummer Bryant
