Obituary For David McCorvey

David Ennis McCorvey was born September 26, 1923, in Tunnel Springs, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Ennis John McCorvey and Julia Nelson McCorvey, seven brothers - Johnny, Roosevelt, Willie, James, Ennis, Sandy, Charlie, and two sisters – Celeste and Mary. He attended the Monroe Country Training Schools for Negroes and then Alabama State Teacher’s College (now Alabama State University), where he graduated with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree. They moved to Montgomery and he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 1987. During this time, he ran the College Hill Grocery Store across the street from Alabama State University for almost 10 years. He also had an insect extermination business. He served under several ministers at First Baptist including Reverend Ralph David Abernathy, Sr., who shepherded his Ordination to the position of Deacon at First Baptist Church in 1958. Rev. Abernathy served as Minister at First Baptist Church from 1952 to 1961. Mr. McCorvey was the last living Deacon confirmed by Rev. Abernathy. Hello family for I didn't know King David, but Mr McCorvey seemed to have lived a life of great accomplishments and enrichments, knowing these didn't come with great sacrifices and some amounts of sadness. So at this time, thank you Sir for your services because you made it possible for me to be served. In your honor, my daughter is a young black physician. You look good wearing your Crown!

So sorry to hear of Mac's passing. Praying for his family. I worked with (Mac) as we called him on the night shift from 1974 to 1987 when he retired. Had many conversations with him through those years and learned a lot about the kind of man he was. He was a "gentle giant". In all those years I never saw him mad about anything and he was as good a Christian man as anyone could ever be. It was an honor to have known him. R.I.P. Mac! Heaven has a new angel! Freddy Odom

Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
