Dr. Catherine James-Peters, MD, MBA, CPE, died suddenly on Monday, February 6, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born October 1971 to Mitchell and Ethel (Lewis) James as the eighth of nine children. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Florence. Catherine grew up in Tallassee, Alabama. She declared her love for medicine and decided that she wanted to be a doctor when she was in the second grade. She said that she wanted to help people. And help people she did. She became an excellent physician, helping many to improve their quality of life. Many of her patients can still be heard saying that Dr. James-Peters had saved their life, or that she had saved the life of a family member. She earned top honors in high school gaining her a scholarship to the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated with top honors earning her B.S in Biology and was awarded a scholarship to medical school. She graduated from the UAB School of Medicine in 1999. The next phase of her medical career had Catherine and her new partner and husband Junius, along with young son Keytrio in Jackson, Tennessee. There she completed her Family Practice Residency program at the University of Tennessee in Jackson, graduating in 2002. Dr. James-Peters opened her very own clinic, Total Family Care, in 2003 in Dothan, Alabama. She successfully ran this clinic until 2010, helping many patients, and gaining the praise of her colleagues, as well as those who got to meet her. During her time leading this practice, she continued her professional development, studying and gaining numerous board certifications to enhance her practice. She even made time to pick up an MBA while continuing to work as a Chief Medical Officer in Georgia. She was a lifelong learner, constantly pursuing the skills and knowledge necessary to provide the highest level of care and expertise to her patients. She has been an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) since 2012. For the last seven years, she has been a member of the Practice Management Committee. She also served as the Georgia Academyโs (GAFP) delegate to the National Chapter Constituency Leaders Program. Dr. James-Peters was the leader behind forming AAFPโs Member Interest Group on Employed Physicians, and served as the founding Chair and Co-Chair of the MIG. Catherine has too many other accomplishments to mention. But far above every secular accomplishment, Catherine would say that her greatest accomplishment in life was dedicating her life to God and getting baptized as one of Jehovahโs Witnesses in 1997, just three months after marrying Junius. As a Witness she enjoyed working in the ministry with her husband, Junius and her son Keytrio. She worked tirelessly to help many to find joy in life by teaching the Bible to them, assisting many to improve the quality of their life in a spiritual way by teaching them how to apply Bible principles in their life . As one of Jehovahโs Witnesses she often talked about the hope of the resurrection. She believed and taught others that one day the earth will become a beautiful paradise, where all will live in peace and happiness under the direction and blessing of Jehovah God and his Son, Jesus Christ. She would say that the Kingdom of God in the hands of Jesus Christ would accomplish that. It was her hope that all would study the Bible and learn about Jehovah and Jesus and what they purpose for the future of this earth. She often spoke of her desire to see her parents again at that time, especially her dearly beloved mother Ethel. She is survived by her husband, Junius, and her son, Keytrio Demark. She is also survived by five brothers, Mitchell, Arthur, Freeman, Melvin, and Deiter; two Sisters, Fonda and Cassandra. Catherine also leaves step children and grandchildren, along with a host of in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, professional associates, and friends. Finally, she leaves a long line of patients that she has cared for over the years. Catherine loved life and had a unique laugh. Whenever Catherine laughed, flashing that beautiful smile, you just had to laugh with her. She was a generous person, sharing materially with many, and without fanfare. She was bright and intelligent. She loved to dance, watch movies, and travel the world, visiting Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, the Islands of Hawaii, and recently Iceland. Jamaica was the love of her life, visiting once or twice a year. Catherine was full of life. She was goal oriented. She will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. CST in the chapel of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home. FACE MASK REQUIRED.
