I love and miss you Mommy but I take comfort in the fact that your health is fully restored and you will be there to greet me when my time comes. We will take good care of your grand baby Tyse, no need to worry. Kiss grandma and all of our ancestors. Until we meet again....CG
I am saddened to learn of the death of Lorene Tyse Ashley. In her last telephone conversation with me a few months ago, we talked about her unsuccessful efforts to have Carver High School alumni photos replaced on the walls at our Alma Mater. She put forth a heroic effort to rectify the unjust removal of GWC Class photos of graduates in classes 1949 through 1965. With Court ordered desegregation of carver High School, all former class photos and sports trophies and awards were relegated to the trash bins of the school. Lorene reproduced each class photo composite, hoping to have them rehung at Carver High, to no avail. Although Lorene appealed to the highest levels of School administration, permission was not granted to have the photos rehung in their rightful places. Consequently there is no public photographic record of the graduating classes prior to integration of G. W. Carver High School. It was Lorene's dying wish that efforts should continue in replacing the Carver High School graduating Classes wall photos. May she rest in peace. Charlie Varner, Jr., GWC '55
