Mr. Edgar Allen Evans, a resident of Pike Road, AL, passed March 28, 2026. Memorial service will be Saturday, April 11, 2026, from Ross-Clayton Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 P.M.
Edgar Allen Evans was born on March 17, 1948, in Evergreen, Alabama, to Ealie Alex Evans and Lou Allen Kyser Evans. He graduated from Conecuh County High School in Evergreen, Alabama. He attended Tuskegee University, where he served in ROTC, and earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics. There he met the woman who would become his partner in every adventure that followed, Adrian Boyd. The two married in November 1969. Soon after, he shipped off to Vietnam where he served with honor, dedication, and quiet courage that would define him for the rest of his life. When he returned, he and Adrian built their family, welcoming two children, Anthony and Andrea. Years later, his lifelong commitment to learning led him to Jacksonville State University, where he earned a master’s degree in finance and accounting.
Edgar spent the next 20 years serving his country through the Army's Finance Corps, moving his family across the world, through Yuma, Arizona; Anniston, Alabama; Indianapolis, Indiana; Huntsville, Alabama; Okinawa, Japan; and Freehold, New Jersey, where he retired from Fort Monmouth. Of all the places the Army took him, it was Okinawa, Japan that captured his heart most completely. Wherever he was stationed Edgar built friendships that crossed ranks and borders.
After retiring from the Army, Edgar wanted to try something different, and so he spent a stretch behind the wheel as a limousine driver, a role that suited him perfectly because he genuinely loved people and every conversation the road brought his way. From there he went to Kean University in New Jersey, where he served as Budget Director for 20 years. His colleagues there didn't just respect him, they loved him. Many of those professional relationships grew into some of the most treasured friendships of his life.
Those who knew Edgar know this truth about him: you never had to ask. He gave before the thought ever crossed your mind. He emailed greeting cards just because, and every holiday season without fail, fruit baskets and bags of Georgia pecans arrived at doorsteps, packaged with care and sent with love. He drove for hours to bring back oranges from South Carolina or ribs from Tennessee, because buying the very best was part of the gift. He baked for gatherings, making trays of his legendary macaroni and cheese, hand squeezed lemonade, or a homemade rich golden Southern pound cake, and then he drove to personally deliver them. He hosted in his home, spending his happiest hours in the kitchen and around a full table surrounded by the people he cherished.
He was a devoted member of both Pine Grove AME Zion Church in Tuskegee and Milledgeville AME Zion Church in Owassa, consistently giving back to support each congregation. When Edgar wasn't cooking for others, you could find him chasing his next adventure, whether at a casino, sometimes driving great distances to reunite with his casino companions. He also loved a good game of Phase 10. You could find him out in the fields of Cotton Valley helping bring in the harvest. He also loved lending his expertise to those in need by volunteering at AARP's tax preparation program or simply settling in his recliner and cheering along with his favorite game show. Edgar didn't just make people feel seen or heard, he made them feel special.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ealie; his mother, Lou Allen; and his brother, Warren.
Edgar is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Adrian Evans; his son, Anthony Evans of Alexandria, Virginia; his daughter, Andrea Evans of Alexandria, Virginia; sisters, Faye and Edith of Montgomery, Alabama; sister-in-law, Nellie of Rolesville North Carolina; nephew, Wayne (Robin) of Silver Spring, Maryland; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Flowers can be sent to Ross-Clayton Funeral Home or donations made in Edgar's honor to a veteran's support organization of your choice.
Edgar Allen Evans gave generously, loved deeply, and lived fully. He will be missed beyond measure, and remembered, always, with a grateful and full heart.

Edgar was my neighbor, my grass cutting buddy, and a beautiful human being. He was always jovial and pleasant to chat with as we always spoke of solving the world's problems. He would poke fun of my home location in that I had to hear the cows moo-ing in the mornings and he wouldnt have built his home next to the cow fields. I the almost three years that I became his name, but sense of judgement told me he was an amazing gentleman, a family man, and a believer in God. His passing truly saddens me. Our world needs more Edga Evans in it to be a much more perfect place. May God rest his soul ! Louie B

Ed was truly one of a kind, gentle, caring and a true gentlemen. The obituary write up describing him is spot on. His smile was contagious and I loved the Georgia peaches he personally shared with me and I am sure with many others. RIP Ed..
