I am truly blessed to have met and worked with this wonderful human being. I have always been told good coaches win games, great coaches change lives. Floyd would have to fall in the second catergory. He definitely touched and aided many young men to become great fathers, husbands and in general good people. His impact on people will be severely missed. My condolences to the immediate family. Love you all!
My Deepest sympathy to his family, I was a friend with Floyd for 70 plus years I moved away about 50 yeara ago but remained in contact. Since finishing High School with my Sister Floyd and I have remained in contact. He was an extremely nice person. We understand life is full of changes but this was unexpected. With love and Respect for a life well lived. Bernard Clark and family in Rowlett,Texas
I'm so deeply sorry for your loss. Please know that my heart aches for you and your family during this unimaginable time of grief. As always, you are in my dearest thoughts and prayers. I hope that you find comfort in the memories you shared with your husband. In addition, I know that Mr. Mathews must've been an amazing man because you always beamed with pride whenever you spoke of him or received numerous phone calls from him. At this time, I know that nothing I can say will take away the pain you're experiencing. Nevertheless, I just wanted you to know that I care about you, and I share in your sadness. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

My dearest condolences to the family of Floyd Mathews. I have fund memories of Floyd as he was the best friend of my best friend's brother. We spent many days at the Taylor's home on Mobile Drive. Floyd and I also attended St. Bernard College in Cullman,AL where he was a star basketball player player and I was as team trainer traveling across the southeast. In every turn on campus or on the road, Floyd always looked out for me. He was my big brother away from home. He was loved by many and will be missed. RIP my friend. ππΌ
Condolences to the Matthews family! May our Lord continue to strengthen you with his joy! Coach Floyd Matthews, secretly referred to as "Big Chief" by our 1983 Pirates team, was a Pirate's Pirate. He was tough when needed, yet a gentle spirit at his core. He also was polite, a gentleman. Additionally, he embraced teaching whether in Government class or explaining various match up zone defenses. Thanks for your example and loving us enough to stay with us, on us when needed and supporting us through the decades since graduation. We mourn your loss and know that if they play pick-up in Heaven, you're calling next! John Harris '83

My condolences to the Matthew family. A true friend indeed. Bus 18-137 Rayfield Parks, Sr.
We were 3 growing up in Mobile Heights, 2 on Caffey Dr. & Floyd on Loveless Curve, friends for over 73 years though we lived miles apart. Funny how life spins you, but last Wednesday, l was blessed to spend time with my life friend, laughing and reminiscing about our days at St. Jude and other stupid stuff we've experienced over these years. Floyd shared with us the news of his induction to the 'Alabama Athletic HOF' and we were so proud of his accomplishment. I know I was shocked by news of his passing but I will as will the rest of his friends and family be so honored to have known him.
Condolences Robert Richardson- St Jude Class '68 Prosper,Texas
My Brother-in-Law was a wonderful man! He will be missed on this earth and in our lives. The good part is we know he is with our Lord and Savior. None of us are here to stay! Determine to make life count for Jesus as He did. He showed love when others did not. It's not the things you have or amount of money in your bank account, it's how we love. Floyd Mathews did that. If one thing we can learn from his love is LOVE!
My condolences to you and your family, May God peace be with you. Love Marcia
