Dear Doris, I'm so sorry I can't be there in person to celebrate your life. I'm currently in therapy for a sciatic nerve flare-up in my hip, but my heart is with everyone gathered to honor you and celebrate your life.
From the very beginning of your illness, I walked alongside you and and my brother through the journey. And what a journey it was. You showed us all what grace under pressure truly looks like. You lived out the quiet strength of Jesus. "He never said a mumbling' word", responding to suffering not with complaint, but with profound silence, humility, and unwavering faith.
Through years of pain, procedures, treatments, and specialists, you aligned your heart with God's will. You endured with dignity, gentleness, and a strength that didn't need to shout to be felt. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." That was you, Doris. And I will always remember the example you set.
Thank you, my sister-in-love, for being the third big sister I never knew I needed, but always had. You and the Edwards family embraced me with love and support for most of my life. You served your husband, your son, grandson, friends, beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and your generation with a quiet power that left a lasting mark.
Your earthly journey is complete. But this is not the end, it's the beginning of eternal life in God's presence, where your body will be transformed to reflect the glory of Christ. God has set you free from this busy walk of life. Rest well, Doris
I love you deeply, Gwen (sister-in-love)
My auntie was one of the sweetest and kindest souls I've ever known. I never once saw her angry or raise her voiceβher love and gentleness spoke louder than words ever could. She was a wonderful mother, a devoted wife, and such an inspiration to me as her niece. She was also a proud and inspirational member of Delta Sigma Theta, and through her example she showed me the importance of sisterhood, service, and strength. From a young age, she helped instill in me a deep love for Alabama State University, a love that continues to shape who I am today. What I will always remember most is how helpful and giving she was, always finding ways to support and uplift others. She inspired me not only through what she accomplished, but through how she livedβwith kindness, grace, and a heart full of love. This loss for my uncle, cousins, and our entire family is truly great. I know that I am the woman I am today partly because of her strong influence on my life. We love you, Auntie Doris, and we will miss you forever. ~tam
