Obituary

In Loving Memory of Mrs. Eindie Murl Frazier Simmons

March 4, 1941 – September 7, 2025

Mrs. Eindie Murl Frazier Simmons, was born on March 4, 1941, to Charlie M. Frazier and Eula Lee Burney in Coffee County, Alabama. She was the beloved sixth child of six, preceded in death by her siblings Sylvester, Davie, James, John D., and Charles.

Eindie was baptized at a young age and became a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Tennille, Alabama, later joining John's Chapel A.M.E. Church in Enterprise, Alabama, where her family settled. She received her education in the public schools of Coffee County, graduating from Coffee County Training School (now Coppinville Jr. High). She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Alabama A&M University and went on to obtain her master’s degree from Tuskegee University and Alabama State University.

Eindie married the love of her life, Hampton Simmons Jr. — whom she affectionately called “Simmons.” Together, they raised two cherished children, Denelia Ann and Hampton, III.

For over 30 years, Eindie dedicated her career to education in the Elmore County School System, retiring as a Home Economics teacher at Stanhope Elmore High School in Millbrook, Alabama. She was an active member of Rehoboth Missionary Baptist Church, serving as Deaconess and on the Missionary Board. In 2013, she founded the Hampton Simmons Jr. Scholarship, which will be renamed the Hampton and Eindie Simmons Scholarship in honor of their commitment to youth education in the community.

Eindie’s life was rooted in her faith, family, church, and love for her grandchildren. She faced life’s challenges with unwavering strength and grace, always focusing on the positive. Known for her delicious cornbread dressing, Hummingbird cake, and sweet potato pies, she found joy in cooking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones. A proud member of the Alabama A&M Alumni Association, Eindie remained connected to her alma mater.

She is survived by her two wonderful children, Denelia Simmons Dunlap (Dr. Allan Dunlap) and Hampton J. Simmons, III (Nichelle Simmons), along with four adored grandchildren: Gem C. Pratts, Jr., Kara M. Simmons, Mia A. Dunlap, and Karrington S. Simmons. Her eldest grandchild, Danielle A. Dunlap, preceded her in death in 2013.

Eindie leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory and the warmth of her spirit.
