Liletta Morris Ward, (born Liletta Jerome Morris), entered this world on May 17, 1944 and departed this life on May 13, 2025. Celebration of Life Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, 2-5 PM from Church of the Highlands 4255 Taylor Rd, Montgomery, AL 36116.
Her legacy and accomplishments are a direct extension of the love and guidance of her parents, the late Jerome Z. Morris and Thelma Smiley Morris.
Liletta accepted Christ at a young age as a member of Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church. Throughout her life, her spiritual journey and connection to God’s Word continued to deepen, ultimately leading her to a spiritual home at The Church of the Highlands. It was there that she drew the strength to face her illness with courage and perseverance, enduring it with unwavering faith until the very end.
As the daughter of the supreme educator, Thelma Smiley Morris, Liletta attended grade schools in Alabama, North Carolina and Florida, culminating in a bachelor’s degree in education from Fisk University, where she pledged the Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She later received her master’s degree in education from Tennessee State University. She went on to teach in the Montgomery Public School System for over 40 years as a speech therapist and reading specialist, touching hundreds of students’ and teachers’ lives in the process.
Beyond teaching formative minds, which she loved, she was the consummate wife and mother to her husband and children. She is preceded in death by her husband, the late Daniel David Ward, and her daughter, Michelle Lynise Jackson. She leaves a legacy of love, joy and excellence in her children: Billy (Yolanda) Jackson, Sr., Dyann Ward, Danielle (Dwan) Mason; her grand-children: Michele Boyd, Alysa Jackson, Kennedy Martin, Will Jackson, Jordan Mason, and Jaxon Mason; and her great grand-children: Angelique Boyd, Lakeem Boyd, Jr., Kai’ir Boyd, and Eris Carter.
To meet Liletta was to know her, and to know her was to love her. Her radiant smile and boundless energy lit up every room she entered, leaving a lasting impression of kindness, warmth, and generosity on everyone she met. Her faith in God was steadfast and unwavering, and now she rests peacefully in His eternal embrace.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23
I was so sorry to hear of your mother passing. I just found out today (6/18/25) that she passed. I've been going to church and looking at the seat where she sat and wondering where's Lil? Texting her and not getting an answer and saying why is she not responding. Today I know. She's resting with the Lord. She was such a lovely person! I know she's in a better place but know that your Mom is missed at Church of the Highlands.

I remember her as an older young lady, during my Childhood -Youth years at Dexter. I also remember and knew both of her parents, there at DEXTER. She had a radiant personality.
I thought of her as "the older cousin" of Mr. Rapier Pearson Smiley.
May God continue to Bless and Comfort ALL of her remaining family members.

Liletta worked at Bellinger Hill and I did too. She was just precious, funny, and so sweet! We just had so much fun laughing in Special Ed! I guess it was better than crying!!!!!
I am so sorry about her passing, but I know she loved the Lord and she is so happy back with your Dad and the rest of the family. I have shared her death with many couple workers, and y'all are in our prayers! His blessings you all in the days and months ahead!
Dear Cousins; May it comfort you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We have such fond and joyous memories of Cousin Liletta. The last of which was a brief late evening fellowship in her driveway a few years ago. Mom, age 95 at the time, had wanted to "lay eyes on her"while traveling through Montgomery. Liletta, with the grace and kindness of of both Aunt Thelma and Uncle Jerome, welcomed the impromptu visit. We sat in our van and shared memories, laughs and love. It was a treasured moment gifted to us.
Family, be encouraged for we have hope of eternal life. May the strength of the Lord be yours. With His Love, M Jackson Family
Dear Cousins Billy, Dyann and Danielle and family. We are thinking of you and praying for your peace as you navigate the loss of your mother (Aunt Liletta).
My memories of her are clear in my mind, though it has been decades since I have seen her. She was kind and loving, always a beautiful smile with dimples in her cheeks and big gold hoop earrings and bangles on her wrists.
We have certainly lost a good amount of sunshine here on earth as a result of her transition to heaven. My sister and I will forever remember her warmth, kind-heartedness and authenticity, all of which will continue to be manifested through you and your children. My sister, brother and I offer our heartfelt condolences and love. Melynee, Allyn and Clifton III.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
