“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Tim. 4:7-8 NIV).
On July 2, 2025, Mrs. Verla Lee Todd made her transition from labor to reward. She was the widow of Rev. Dr. Anderson Todd, Jr., General Officer for the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s Department of Ministerial Annuities.
As a beloved and dedicated spouse, mother, and friend, Sis. Todd moved mightily—often silently—behind the scenes. Her wisdom and direction influenced many and will outlive her in the faith and works of those she influenced.
Please be in prayer for her daughter, Denise (Curtis) Cottrell, Nashville, Tennessee. Please direct cards and gifts to her attention, c/o St. John AME Church, POB 280646, Nashville, TN 37228, (615) 481-4753, sainjohname@aol.com (note there is no “t” in saint).

Denise, We are praying for you and praise God for your mother. Her quiet strength and unwavering kindness always made us feel loved. Janice and Teri and so many others were her 'baby girls', and her gentleness truly shaped their lives. Thank you for sharing your parents with all of us. God bless you Lois Brown, Janice, Teri, Ashley, & Families
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. We hold our family close in prayer, trusting that the comfort Moma Verla gave so freely will now return to them a hundredfold. May we live forward in her honor—with grace, with faith, and with love. With deepest sympathy and abiding respect, Moma Verla blessed us by simply being herself. Darryl and Pamela Sankey
