Charlie Varner, jr's words about this exquisite Lady, Winona Bailey, her warmth for those she touched. She was so charismatic and beautiful! I met her as I was with Bill and Mary Ann Wright back in 1989 I went to their home with the Wright's. Wanona and Jim had a fabulous home and they took us out to dinner at the huge out of this world Country club for dinner as we were on our way to New Orleans for the New car show of Ford motor company. I have never forgotten a few hours that Wynona and Jim graciously entertained us for the evening I think she was the prettiest lady, with the exception of my mother, that I have ever seen in my life! If she has a single grand that looks anything like her I'm single, too! I would love to meet her My thoughts and prayers are with you and this family throughout the days and weeks and months to come because I know how hard it is to lose a mother that you dearly loved as I did mine that I lost two years ago and I spent 23 years of being her caretaker 24 seven . I'm sorry I'm tardy but I just found out this this morning. Mary Ann Wright called me to tell me the news and Wynona live to be a wonderful, gorgeous life beautiful beautiful lady of 100 years around the solar system. God bless her and she has flown in her beautiful angel wings Fly high fly high Far away!! David C. Huggins Pinehurst, N. C.

My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the Bailey and Simmons families. The passing of Winona Lavelle Simmons Bailey strikes a blow in the hearts of all of us who knew her and shared her friendship. Winona was one whose strength was in her sharing of her precious gift of caring for others. Making friends came as natural as breathing to her. First meeting her as friend of my older sister, I came to know Winona even better following the death of her sister Gwendolyn, my classmate, Senior Prom date and friend. Since Gwen's death on January 9, 1958, Winona and I frequently shared our common remembrances of Gwen and Mrs. Willetta (2002). May the Lord continue to bless the souls whom I met and came to know and love at 729 Erskine Street: Grandmother Rosetta, Mother Willetta, Winona and Gwen. Peace be with them all.
