I came to Whitehaven the same year Mr. Newsom started teaching. I was scared having just moved to Memphis and having to switch schools unexpectedly. The momentI met him he was a bright light and always encouraging. He never treated my classmates and I as just his students. We were family. I rarely called him Mr. Newsom, it was uncle Newsom. He was always lending a helping hand. To know him is to love him. Everything and everyone he touched was just that much better from having known him. He will be greatly missed. My warmest sympathy and prayers to his family.
My deepest condolences goes out to the entire family, friends, colleagues, and students of Mr. Newsom. I had 3 boys to come up under your direction. They love, respect and look up to you! I am grateful that they had you overseeing their education and gift. Rest well, Mr. Newsom. You were loved and appreciated, deeply.

You have always been a bright light in the community. You were like a father to me and you will truly be missed. We all love you so much. Rest easy knowing you changed many livesπ»
As tears fall down my face, and I try to gather the right words to say, I have established there are not enough positive words in the dictionary to describe the type of person you were. You were just that Guy. You were a mentor, father( not just to your kids, but every kid you encountered), friend, therapist, brother, etc. You were that person that always had your students back as well as your love ones. You definitely had my back. Without you, I honestly don't know were I would be or how my life would have turned out. The level of respect that I have as well as many others for you is uncanny. I love you dearly. Rest in Love and in peace. Until we meet again. ποΈποΈβ€οΈ

"Well Done, Thy Good and Faithful Servant"
Take your rest Mr. Newsom. The AOB will forever be indebted to you. Thank you for operating in your given purpose here on earth boldly and proudly.
Brianne Rucker.
Mr. Newsom, Although I was long gone before your leadership at TSU, i must say that it's an honor to be apart of the same family. The AOB would not be what it is today, w/o your influence, love, passion, and guidance of your WH students. Take your rest.
Rest on Classmate! Job Well Done! From Robin Snell
Love ya prof. You can rest easy now upstairs
"Get yo mind right" "Every note is a symphony"-Prof Newsom. You had a big presence and your legacy will continue on.
Mr. Newsom, I did not expect to feel the way I do. When I heard about you, I was shook. You gave me a space to be me, flaws and all. I thank you for trying to bring out of me what I had hidden. Even though I wasn't around you long, I have always remembered and respected you. You were a great person. You have reached many people. You deserve a job well done. Thank you for crossing my path. I know you can finally rest now because God would not have brought you home if your job was left undone. I pray for your family and everyone that has encountered you. May your light shine in Heaven as brightly as you have on earth. Moe
Words can not explain how much hurt I am. Mr. Newsom was a very fun, enjoyable person. Mr. Newsom had brought so much out of the band and made us feel good about playing our music. He brought that potential and fire out of us that we been trying bring out. He was a father figure to us all! It's hard walking into the school building knowing you're not here with us anymore. It's hard getting through the day sometimes. You will be missed dearly and we love you very muchπ₯Ήβ€οΈ

I pray that God provides comfort to your family during these trying times. You were one of the greatest bands directors we've ever had at Whitehaven. We are forever grateful for you and will always keep you in our β€οΈ. Thank you NewNew for molding SOP!
Mr. Newsom would let me skip in the bandroom as long as I was working on something. I decided to work on my drawing skills and he would come over, look over my shoulder and say, "That looks a lot cleaner than the last time you drew it, I'm proud of you" And I've been going ever since. I wanted to give it up all together but he wouldn't let me. I never got to thank him all these years later but I hope he knows that every piece of art I do, a bit of him is in it. Thank you for everything.
Mr. Newsom you will be dearly missed. Thank you for the countless lessons in life, music, band, school, etc. You gave your all to everything..Whitehaven, AOB High School Summer Band Camp, AOB, Tuba Ensemble, etc. we always got all there is of you. Thank you for the laughs, the memories, and the knowledge. To his kids and family, to all of his friends and coworkers, my endless prayers and condolences are with you all! Much love! Can't wait to see you in that open parking lot one day! -Cody Keith
