Obituary For Cammille Noah-Hubbard

Cammille Noah-Hubbard possessed a rare combination of elegance, determination, intelligence, and an unmistakable sense of style. She built a successful career, formed lasting friendships wherever she went, loved her family deeply, and filled her years with beautiful places and experiences. Hers was a remarkably full life.

Born on December 8, 1952, in Okolona, Mississippi, to Donipher and Emma Noah, Cammille was exceptionally bright and gifted from childhood. Her teachers quickly recognized her exceptional academic ability. She skipped the second grade, continued to thrive throughout her education, and became valedictorian of Fannie Carter High School—later known as Okolona High School—at just sixteen years old. Beyond the classroom, she was a standout basketball player and gifted all-around student.

That early promise reflected the remarkable capability she would demonstrate throughout her life. At the University of Memphis, she continued to distinguish herself while also forming friendships that would last a lifetime. Her college friends remember her as brilliant, stylish, and extraordinarily gracious. She often arrived bearing dishes made from her mother’s cherished recipes, especially Emma’s famous pound cake. It was also during these years that Cammille’s enduring—and occasionally exasperating—devotion to the Memphis Tigers began.

After passing the rigorous Certified Public Accountant examination, Cammille began a distinguished career in public finance. She served in positions with the Shelby County Assessor’s Office, the City of Memphis, and Memphis City Schools, earning the respect and friendship of colleagues at every stop. She spent the largest part of her career at Memphis City Schools as Director of Payroll, a consequential and highly visible position often defined by “getting people their checks.” She approached that responsibility with characteristic precision, professionalism, and resolve. Cammille was well-known for having an uncanny ability to make things happen.

Her accomplishments never came at the expense of a rich personal life, and she brought that same devotion to raising her daughter, Emily. Cammille poured herself into Emily’s education and activities. She attended science fairs, raised money for school programs, and unofficially led the fan section at Emily’s basketball games from first through eighth grade. In keeping with her belief in beauty and polish, she insisted Emily take a “White Gloves and Party Manners” class, complete with a final examination in dinner etiquette. On another occasion, Emily excitedly announced that she had been cast as the witch in the Wizard of Oz. Cammille asked, “Why not Dorothy?” In that moment, Emily received her first lesson in advocacy, and shortly thereafter, starred as Dorothy.

When Cammille met Hank, they began a partnership that would span nearly three decades. Together, they created a life full of friendship, laughter, fine dining, and adventure. They became known “islanders” in River Town, beloved by their neighbors and staff at their favorite restaurants and local businesses. Cammille and Hank truly made friends wherever they went. Together with Emily, they became avid travelers, exploring Paris, Santorini, the Amalfi Coast, the South of France, and beyond. Among Cammille’s favorite memories was celebrating her 70th birthday in Chamonix, France, where she wandered the French Alps with Hank, Emily, and her cherished granddaughter, Chloe.

Cammille adored being “Gran Gran” to Chloe. She delighted in dressing Chloe in Janie and Jack, surrounding her with carefully chosen Christmas gifts, and creating the special memories that only a grandmother can. Rarely did a day pass without her calling to ask, “What is Chloe up to?” She made certain that every Christmas was spent together as a family, establishing traditions that Emily and Chloe will carry with them for generations.

Though her family grieves her beyond measure, they are profoundly grateful for the fullness of her life—a life marked by brilliance, resilience, generosity, friendship, adventure, laughter, and abiding love. Cammille remained delightfully herself throughout life, even during her illness she requested Nobu’s black cod and one more trip to Bergdorf Goodman. Her influence lives on in the daughter she raised, the granddaughter she adored, the institutions she served, and the countless relatives, colleagues, neighbors, and friends whose lives were made richer by knowing her.

Cammille is survived by her daughter, Emily Hubbard; her beloved granddaughter, Chloe; great-aunts and cousins; and a host of extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hank, with whom she shared nearly thirty years of partnership and a lifetime of cherished memories.

The family will receive friends for a visitation Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 10:00am-11:55am with a Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00noon both will be held at Golden United Methodist Church 4028 Neely Rd, Memphis, TN 38109

Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38120
