Obituary For Edward Nelson McSwine

Edward Nelson McSwine, affectionately known as Bubba Mack, 88, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at Northside Gwinnett Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Edward was born on October 15, 1937, to Melrose Brown and John Thomas Mack in Memphis, Tennessee. He was married to Grace Alden Phillips in 1963 in Nashville, Tennessee while both were students of Tennessee State University.

Edward received a degree in History from Tennessee State University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, including service in Germany where he was honored as a "Sharp Shooter." He dedicated over 20 years as a Deputy Sheriff for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and a Bailiff for the Shelby County Circuit Court Civil Division serving under the Honorable George H. Brown, Jr.

Edward loved spending time with his family at church, singing in his praise group, fishing, listening to Gospel and Motown sounds, serving the Booker T. Washington High School Memphis Alumni Association and cheering on the University of Tennessee football team.

He is survived by his wife, Grace P. McSwine of Memphis, TN; three daughters, Gisela McSwine, Stephanie McSwine, and Stacey McSwine Cameron, Esq., ten grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, three nieces and additional family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melrose Brown and John Thomas Mack, and his siblings, Loretta J. Oden and Dietrich Pierre Brown.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at RS Lewis Funeral Home, 2944 Walnut Grove Rd, Memphis, TN 38111. Celebration of Life (Homegoing Service) will be on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 12:00 PM at RS Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at VA Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, TN 38125.
