Ernest Brooks Jr. was born on December 4, 1955, in Memphis, Tennessee to Ernest Brooks Sr. and Queen Esther Johnson. Ernest accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age.
Ernest will always be remembered as a gentle giant, who had a kind and tender heart, and someone who was always willing to help anyone in need. He served in the United States Army for several years. Following his discharge, he went on to earn degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Management. He was a Senior Business Executive for various Fortune 500 companies, prior to his retirement in 2021. Additionally, he served on the board of directors of Big Brothers and Sisters of Akron as an Executive, as well as being actively involved in Veteran Affairs initiatives here in Memphis since his retirement.
On the morning of Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital, Ernest transitioned to his eternal home with the Lord.
Ernest was blessed with a loving family. To cherish his memory, he leaves his devoted wife of 29 years Risa and four children Timothy (Amber) Akron, Ohio, Ranette Shenelle Cordova, TN, Matthew (Emily) Wooster, Ohio, and Raina Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren. He is survived by his Aunt Theresa Jackson Holly Grove, Arkansas and three siblings Joseph Johnson Sr. (Alice) Memphis, TN, Doris Lawshe, Southaven, MS, and Evelyn McKinney Memphis, TN. And a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Brooks Sr, Queen Esther Johnson, four siblings Franklin Morris, Arletha Neal, Charles Johnson, Phillip Johnson and granddaughter Rai’ana Tydus.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Ernest will be truly missed.

A public viewing is scheduled for Tuesday January 03, 2023, 9:30am until service of celebration 11am at Mt. Gilead Cathedral of El-Shaddai 3997 Willowview Rd. Burial will be Wednesday January 4th, 9am at West Tennessee State Veteran Cemetery 4000 Forest Hill Irene..
