Obituary For Essie D Knox
Essie D Knox, 93 of Memphis, Tennessee died on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at residence in Memphis. Born Sunday, January 10, 1926 in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Willie Hart and the late Effie Emmerson Hart. Surviving are sons, Leroy Hart and Preston Eugene Pruitt, daughters, Emma J Christian of Memphis, TN, Willie Mae Turner, Clara Hopson, Debra A Knox and Irma J Knox, brother, Johnny Hart ; 66 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, May 24, 2019, at R S Lewis & Sons, 374 Vance Ave, Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral service will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday at Promiseland Baptist Church located at 3430 Overton Crossing Memphis, Tennessee 38127. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, TN

My deepest sympathy to the family Mrs Essie was like a aunt to me. The auntie you can tell anything and get that same facial reaction. She and my mother, Mrs Rosie Johnson and a few others still around Roland Street were like the Matriarch of the neighborhood. As they say " it takes a neighborhood to raise a child ", she had a part of that role in our neighborhood. She would give you that look, like you better not say it or do it without uttering a word. We will truly miss Ms. Essie. Love always!!
My condolences to the family, I remember visiting Ms.Essie's home often during our high school years. She knew how to enjoy life doing what she loved! She was always kind to me, she will truly be missed. Praying for family.
