On Friday evening, June 9, 2023, the Lord whispered to Eva Lee Crump to come home to her eternal resting place.
She was born November 21, 1939, in Oakland, Mississippi, to Mattie Kuykendall and Sidney Crump, who preceded her in death. She was the first born of eight siblings.
She confessed her faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ under the leadership of Brother Nekomis Yelldell at Vance Avenue Church of Christ in 1964. Finally returning back to Memphis in 1979 Eva claimed her membership at Norris Avenue Church of Christ and years later, she joined East End Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Dwight Brownlee until present.
Eva was a woman of God. If she didn’t go anywhere else, she was going to church. It wasn’t very often that she would stay home on a Sunday. She was a faithful member of her church and the work she did for the Lord. She was a woman after God’s own heart.
Eva was educated in the Memphis City School System. She started her work journey early to assist her mother with taking care of her younger siblings. She was employed at John Gaston Hospital and Trailways Bus Station. She also worked years in private homes along with Wade Home Health Services. She sacrificed her needs for the needs of others. Her work ethic was what some people would call a workaholic because she always had two jobs. Eva loved her family, and she was going to make sure that everyone was good. She even thought everyone she met was so sweet that she gave them the name “Sweet Baby.”
To know her was to absolutely love her! She was the true definition of a “GIVER” If you look in the dictionary under giving, you will probably see her picture. She would often clip coupons from the newspaper so that she could shop for items for others. This would be a weekly routine to box up cleaning items and household goods for friends and family.
Eva’s legacy will extend generations, having been blessed with one devoted son, Donald Ray Crump (RaeMona). She leaves three wonderful grandchildren, Freda Crump, Tamaria Burnside (Andrew), and Donavan “DonDon” Crump, and one amazing great-grandchild, Adrian “Boss” Crump.
Eva will forever be remembered by her four sisters and four brothers. Eva was preceded in death by: Priscilla Lee, Joe Crump, and Percy Brown.
Eva leaves Willie Mae Lovely, Margaret Thomas, Allen Brown, and Hayward Brown; three uncles, James Bradford (Gennie), Dennis Bradford (Alice) and Arnold Kuykendall (Kathy) of New Jersey; her aunts, Betsy Sanders (Ernest) and Allean Pickens (aunt/sister), all of Memphis, Tennessee.
Eva also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends. Special people who touched her life and she loved dearly, special sister, Frances Jones. She also leaves some special friends who she kept in contact with from New Jersey: Clara Robinson, Lucy Brown and Carolyn Gatewood. She also leaves a play son who she adopted for her own, Leander (Bear) Wilson. There were so many “Sweet Babies” I can’t name them all. Eva will be dearly missed by all who met her, but her Heavenly Father was waiting on her, and she has work to do with The Master.
My thoughts and prayers for the family. Sister Eva was truly a wonderful lady. She visited the Horn Lake Church of Christ many many times and we loved to see her there. She was always bringing us little happies like magnets, dolls, books. We loved her dearly and she will be truly missed. Jackie Ackerman
