Gladys Louise Flowers was born in Marks, Mississippi on September 30,, 1949, to the union of Elder Tommy and Alvania Wiley. She was the 5th of their 11 children. Elder and Mrs. Wiley and their family lived in Crowder, MS where she met life- long friends, Anna Mae and Annie Laura Jones. Later her family moved to Batesville, MS and she United with another life friend, Betty Ree Haines. She attended high school at Patton Lane. On December 3rd, 1968 she married Robert Flowers, affectionately know as “her Bill” . To this union was born her only child, her pride and joy, Angelia Denise. Gladys was undoubtedly an extraordinary mother. Her love for her daughter cannot be described in words.

In 1971 Gladys and Bill moved their family to Chicago, IL. Soon after her arrival in Chicago, she started in Nursing classes at Truman College, which led her to work at Thorek Medical Center. After some years working in healthcare she joined her husband at Proctor and Gamble corporation. Gladys also worked at Avon Corporation and Motorola Corporate which she retired early in 2000.

Ms. Gladys could best be described as a woman of grace, elegance and GREAT STYLE. She would light up a room with her joy and her contagious laugh. She was all about FAMILY! Family was EVERYTHING to her. Howeverthe characteristic she will be most remember by would be her heart of gold. She loved the Lord and had a plan to build the kingdom of God with love and kindness, one person at a time. After retiring from Motorola she returned to health care industry as a Private Duty Nurse, which she soon found that it wasn’t just a job but it was also ministry for her. She found joy in volunteering her time at nursing homes through-out the city, sitting, talking, listening and praying with patients. She also spent a great deal of time volunteering with feeding the homeless at shelters as well as on the streets of Chicago.

Ms. Flowers was long time member of Pentecostal Temple COGIC, Chicago, IL where her Pastor was the late Superintendent R.C. Edwards and then Pastor Sam Edwards. During her time at Pentecostal Temple here family grew even the more, with the beautiful friendships of Arthur Tynch, Lorraine Edwards, Stephanie Mathis, Leah Oduro-Kwarten and Pat Love. Friendship was special to her.

During the last 4 years of her life, Gladys lived in Memphis with her younger Brother and “Sister-in-Love” Pastor Jonathan and Lady Winnie Wiley and their daughter CJ. On Tuesday, February 23rd surrounded by family, Gladys departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Angelia Adair and Son-in-Law, Pastor Karl Adair. Phillipian 3: 12-14 (The Message Bible) Gladys’ Favorite Scripture FOCUSED ON THE GOAL I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

A public viewing is scheduled for Thursday March 4, 2021 from 4 until 6 pm at R. S. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home 2944 Walnut Grove Rd.
