Juanita S. Phillips was born 20 July 1933 to Willie Mae and John Henry Smith in Selma, AL, the third of seven children. Juanita grew up in Selma and did all other things that young children do. At an early age she joined Shiloh Baptist Church and was very active. After graduation from high school she attended Alabama State College (now Alabama State University) and graduated with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting and a minor in Education. Here Juanita was a member of Mt Hermon AME Church where she served as an Usher, a member of the Finance Committee, a Steward, a Stewardess, and served on numerous Boards and acted as Committee Chairs. After her retirement as a Comptroller in the Department of Treasury, the family relocated to the Cordova area. Hello Uncle Leroy, Adrienne and Ronald,
We are all so saddened to lose Aunt Juanita. It appears that Auntie has been having problems for a while now health wise.
It's so hard to believe that both she and Dad have transcended on. But I can imagine Dad was there for Auntie to guide her through and she was not alone.
They both suffered quietly it seems and though I am comforted in knowing their pain is over, I am saddened that we won't see them here on earth with us anymore.
So we celebrate Aunt Juanita's life and the parts we were able to share with her! She accomplished much and is an inspiration to us all!
Please know Michael and I are thinking and praying for you! So it is good-bye for now until we meet once again.
Love, Denise and Michael Williams (Fishkill, NY)
