Obituary For Keith Robinson

Keith Matthew Robinson was born to Dorothy Robinson Fields and Alfred C. Robinson on February 17, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee. When Keith was a young child, his mother married Amos Fields, who lovingly embraced him as his own. Keith departed his earthly home on December 1, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless lives.

Keith was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1965, where he showcased both an innate and technically skilled musical talent and served as a proud member of the illustrious BTW band, mastering the French Horn. Music was Keith's heartbeat. His passion for varied genres of music transcended boundaries, leading him on a global quest to amass an extraordinary collection of jazz, folk, and rhythm and blues. This deep appreciation for diverse musical cultures and styles was cultivated as Keith traversed the world, reveling in the beauty and intricacies of various societies, while gathering experiences that enriched his soul.

His infectious smile, exceptional eye for style and undeniable charisma were unmistakable traits that set him apart and endeared him to many. Keith carried himself with an unmatched swag and sophistication, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. His magnetic personality and zest for life illuminated every room he entered, making him a cherished presence in the lives of many.

Keith's journey into adulthood took a heroic turn when he answered the call to serve his country. Drafted into the U.S. Army after graduation, Keith displayed extraordinary bravery and valor during the tumultuous years of the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart for his acts of heroism. His unwavering commitment to service and his nation was a testament to his abiding sense of loyalty and courage. The world was bigger than one neighborhood or city, and Keith believed he answered to a higher calling. Keith, indeed, answered the call.

After returning from service, Keith blazed a trail of academic excellence, becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree. Never one to rest on his laurels, he continued his studies and earned a Master's Degree in Political Science from the former Memphis State University. A relentless curiosity about life and dedicated work ethic would continue to characterize his journey for the remainder of his life.

Keith’s professional endeavors included meaningful roles at Tall Trees Youth Guidance School, where he not only worked professionally but also mentored and guided youth, imparting invaluable wisdom and encouragement. His commitment to empowering others also led him to the Tennessee Valley Center where he served as Minority Job Developer and strived to create opportunities and support for underrepresented communities. Keith’s final occupational endeavor led him to the U.S. Post Office, where he eventually retired after years of dedicated service.

A proud member of the prestigious "Corner Club," Keith revered the deep camaraderie and shared experiences with fellow members. He cherished his friends and fostered relationships that felt more like family bonds.

At the core of Keith’s being was a deep love for his church, Mt. Olive Cathedral CME Church, where he found solace, community, and spiritual fulfillment. He also sought comfort at First Congregational Church, where he forged lasting relationships. Keith's compassionate spirit extended far beyond the church walls. He made it his mission to regularly visit family and friends - ensuring their basic needs were met. This theme of service, protection and generosity of spirit was the collective thread that defined his life until the very end.

Keith was preceded in death by his dear parents who raised him, Dorothy and Amos; his father, Alfred C. Robinson; and his siblings, Larry Robinson, Sr., Lanny Fields, Sr., and Ronnie Fields. Keith leaves behind a cherished legacy of love and family and is survived by his wife, Georgia Nelson; three children, Christopher (Margaret) Lee, Kerra (Michael) Saine and Justyn Robinson; nine grandchildren, Keirra Manning, Alexis Lee, Miles Saine, Kenyada Lee, Akia Lee, Maia Saine, Maxwell Saine, Justyn Robinson, Jr. and Maci Saine, and ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves a loving extended family including three sisters, Beverly Wilson, Francine Fields, Karen (Lorenzo) Brooks; two brothers, Kenneth Fields and Kirk Fields; and a host of nieces, cousins, and friends. Keith Matthew Robinson will forever be remembered.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at RS Lewis & Sons 2944 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN 38111. Celebration of Life will be Friday, December 15, 2023 11:30am at Mt. Olive Cathedral 538 Doctor M.L.K. Jr Ave, Memphis, TN 38126

Internment will be following the service at 2:00pm in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, TN 38125
