Kevin Lamont White was born on September 26, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late John and Bobbie White. The eldest of three children, Kevin was raised in the Whitehaven area of Memphis. He attended and graduated from Hillcrest High School, Class of 1986. During his teenage years, you could often find Kevin listening to the Purple Rain album, nonstop, while cruising around in his yellow 1976 Chevrolet Camaro. After high school, Kevin attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and later returned to Memphis, where he attended Memphis State University.
Kevin accepted Christ at an early age and attended Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ with his family, pastored by the late Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr. He would later go on to join Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, pastored by Reverend Al Green.
Kevin had a true passion for cars, especially Corvettes, a love he inherited from his father. Fittingly, his first job was as a car salesman. He loved attending car auctions and became the family's go-to person for all things automotive. Over the years, Kevin also worked for FedEx and BNSF Railway.
Kevin was a sharp dresser. He was never a jeans and tennis shoes type of guy. No matter where he was headed, you could often find him in his signature look: a crisp white button-down shirt, dress slacks, and freshly shined dress shoes. He believed in looking his best, regardless of the occasion.
If you had a conversation with Kevin, you were almost guaranteed to hear his perspective on politics. He kept C-SPAN or the local news on television and talk radio playing in the car so he could stay abreast of what was happening in the world. And if politics wasn't the topic, sports probably was, especially basketball, with a little football sprinkled into the mix.
If you truly knew Kevin, you knew one thing for certain; Kevin loved his food! He could amaze you with how much he could eat, and he enjoyed every bite. Pizza was one of his favorites, and Jason's Deli held a special place on his list, especially the all-you-can-eat salad bar.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoyed surfing the web and browsing online car sites, always keeping up with his love of cars. He also had a gift for writing poetry. If there was a family event taking place, you could count on Kevin to show up with a heartfelt poem in hand, written especially for the occasion. His poems became one of the special ways he celebrated the people and moments that mattered to him.
Kevin leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Keeynan L. White; his sister, Keeva L. Carey (Eddie); three nieces, Kayla LaShon White, Nailah Mackenzie Joyner, and Kya LaShae White; one nephew, Greyson James Allen Carey; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, John Allen White and Bobbie Jean Davis White.
