Margaret K. Hill was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 1, 1935, to the late Calvin and Ollie Kincaide.
Margaret was educated in the Memphis school system and a proud graduate of Douglass High School. She accepted Christ at her home church, First Church of God-Chelsea and carried her faith with her throughout her life. Margaret had a heart for caring for others, and her kindness was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a well-loved and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Margaret embraced her entrepreneurial spirit by collaborating with her sister Dorothy, operating a florist shop. She also proceeded to sell Shaklee products, gaining her own clientele. A proud resident of the Orange Mound community, Margaret opened Margaret’s Home Daycare, which she operated for over 20 years. There, she lovingly cared for countless children, treating them as her own, becoming a true neighborhood mother to many.
Margaret enjoyed shopping, attending church, and spending time with her family, especially relaxing on her porch. Her blunt honesty, loyalty, unconditional love, and free spirit made her unforgettable.
She was united in marriage to her husband, James Thomas, with whom she shared six children. She later married James Hill, who preceded her in death. Margaret was also preceded in death by her son, James Thomas Jr.; and her brothers, Calvin, John, Will, and James Kincaide.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory her four daughters, Angela Guy, Princess Liggins, Anita Artis (Robert), and Thelma Pointer (Damon); her son, Michael J. Thomas; and her sister, Dorothy Rayford. She will forever be remembered as “Granny” by her 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of beloved relatives, friends, and neighbors. Margaret also embraced her bonus children as her own.
