Marilyn Porter Baker, age 66 of Memphis TN, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Methodist University Hospital after a long illness. Marilyn was born December 31,1956 to the late Alice Porter Thomas and Herman Hayes. She was the oldest of seven children, three preceded her in death. Marilyn graduated from Northside High School in 1975. Following graduation, she worked for Morrison Cafeteria for an extended amount of time. Marilyn was a faithful member of Columbus Baptist Church. She was happily married to Willie James Baker for 47 years. She is survived by one son, Ontario Porter of Memphis TN. Also, surviving are three sisters: Anita Porter of Memphis TN; Vicki Porter of Cleveland OH; and Angela Porter Wester of LaVergne TN, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends for a viewing held Saturday, November 4, 2023, from 10:00am-11:00am and Homegoing Service will begin at 11:00am at Columbus Baptist Church, 324 Decatur Street, Memphis TN 38105. Burial will follow service, New Park Cemetery, 4536 Horn Lake Road, Memphis TN 38109. Services entrusted to R.S. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home, 374 Vance Avenue, Memphis TN 38126.
