Nettie Martell LaGrone Givhan, 92, of Memphis, TN passed away on June 14, 2025 at her home in Memphis, Tennessee. Nettie was born on August 11, 1932 to the late Jay B Burks and the late Frankie Gates Burk in Memphis, Tennessee.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her grandson, Jonathan Eversley (Quala); sister-cousins, Marallyn Strickland and Joycellyn Broussard; nieces, Patrice Jones (Robert, daughter Brittany) and Debbie Strickland, Rev. Rachel Williams-Glen (Gordon); nephews, Anthony Strickland, Richard Allen Williams and Prince Williams; godson, Leon Key; her best friend, Joyce Springfield-Collins; and a host of cousins, friends, and former students touched by her grace, love, wisdom and legacy.
The Omega-omega service will be held on Saturday, June 28th, 2025 from 10:00 am - 10:55 am at St Andrew A M E Church located at 767 s Parkway East Memphis, TN. 38106. Memorial service will be on Saturday, June 28th, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the St Andrew A M E Church.
In lieu of Flowers please make any and all donations to St Andrew A M E Church Scholarship Fund that will be named in honor of Nettie Martell LaGrone Givhan.
Ms LaGrone was my home ec teacher at Lester High School. She was a very good seamstress and cook. She was also one of the best dressed teachers I have ever seen

Mrs Lagrone was a one of a kind lady. You could see the class and grace every morning that she entered my Home Ec class. I had the honor of seeing her in 2023 and she looked amazing. We chatted for a while and I am so glad that we took a picture together. Rest in love Mrs Lagrone.
She was one of the most caring teacher we had and love making sure that we knew that and will go out her way to help her students in anyway that she can she will be truly missed
