Obituary For Randal Thompson

Rev. Randal DeAudwin Thompson, a native of Memphis, TN, was born to his mother, Rev. Dr. Mittie Knowles Carey(Jesse) and his father, Mr. Beauford Thompson (Verline) on September 27, 1967. He was called from his labors to receive his eternal reward from our heavenly Father in the early morning hours of September 27, 2023. As the dawn of a new day drew nigh, so his soul cried out “Nearer my God to Thee” and the God he loved and served received him with open arms.

Randal graduated from Woodale High School in Memphis, TN. His academic pursuits led him to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and LeMoyne Owen College in Memphis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. As an academician, he furthered his education by attending and graduating from Southern New Hampshire University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Randal was a lifelong learner and he increased in knowledge and wisdom in his spiritual pursuits as a minister of the gospel and in his pursuits of ministry in music. Randal learned in the classroom of life as even in his illness he passed the test of patience and endurance. He was faithful over a few things, and now shall be a ruler over many.

Rev. Randal learned the basics of the Christian faith as a child growing up at Olivet Baptist Church in Memphis. At the tender age of seven years old, he was converted and baptized. With a love for God, the church, family, community, and humanity, his spiritual growth continued to increase. At the time of his transition, he was a member of Fredonia Baptist Church in Stanton, TN where his uncle, the Reverend Lee I. Brown, Jr. is the Senior Pastor. There, he faithfully served on the ministerial staff, with the music ministry, and as a member of the media ministry. Being multi-talented and gifted and graced by God, Rev. Randal was a yielded vessel for the Lord. He allowed the glory of God to radiate and shine through him as he served with dedication and commitment. He loved the Lord and was generous with sharing his gifts and talents.

Rev. Randy was the proud father of two children: a daughter, Brandi Lachelle Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia, and a son, Danyl DeAudwin Thompson of Murfreesboro, TN. They are a tribute to his honor, and he leaves them a legacy of compassion, hope, faith, and love.

Rev. Randy was a seasoned employee who shared his expertise in accounting for the past twenty years with Olympus Surgical Technologies, America in various capacities, but most recently as a Cost Accounting Analyst. As a professional in his field, he exemplified excellence and skill, and was a person of value and integrity.

Rev. Randy was a magnificent musician and one of his greatest hobbies was playing music. Thus, he shared his musical gifts as a saxophonist, bass guitarist, drummer, pianist, and soloist. He knew that music soothed the heart, stirred the soul, and brought heaven and earth a little closer. Other hobbies included being a motorcyclist and also, a fisherman. Randy was a dog-lover— an advocate for, and a dedicated and caring father to Belvedere (Belly), Tyger, Simba, Whiskey, and other fur babies.

Rev. Randy gave in so many ways and received great joy in knowing the works he has done, the faith hope and love he has shared will extend from generation to generation. And the greatest of these is love. One of his favorite songs was Marvin Sapp’s “Praise Him in Advance.” Rev. Randy was practicing for his debut; for we know he is now praising the God whom he loved and served somewhere around God’s heavenly throne.

Rev. Randy leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Brandi Lachelle Thompson of Atlanta, GA; one son, Danyl DeAudwin Thompson of Murfreesboro, TN; his loving mother, Rev. Dr. Mittie K Carey (Jesse); his father, Mr. Beauford Thompson (Verline); grandmother, Mrs. Mary A.
