Obituary For Rev. Willie Buck E Boyd, Jr

Birth: On October 10, 1977, in Memphis, Tennessee, Rev. Willie “Buck” Elbert Boyd Jr. was born to Mr. Willie B.E. Boyd Sr., who preceded him in death, and Mrs. Mozella Murray Boyd. Education: He attended Oakshire, Charjean, and White Station Elementary Schools as well as White Station Middle and High Schools. He graduated from White Station High School in 1995 where he was the manager of the basketball team and a member of the Pep Club. He was also Mr. Junior, voted Most Witty, and led the Annual African American History program. He was a beau in the Memphis (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated Beautillion during his Senior Year in high school. He attended LeMoyne Owen College where he pledged the “Big Money” Beta Mu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He earned a B. B. A from Bethel College and Master of Education with a concentration in Special Education from Grand Canyon University. He also earned a Master’s degree from Memphis Theological Seminary. Life: At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and joined Mt. Pisgah C. M. E. Church in Memphis, TN. He began preaching to his older sisters when he was only two years old. He’d preach to them, then he’d leave his pulpit and ask them to stand to sing and become the choir director. He has always loved the Lord. He attended Sunday School, was an altar boy, a member of the Rossie T. Hollis Missionary Circle, the Children’s, Youth and Young Adult Choirs, and Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF). While in college, he served as a youth minister at Mt. Pisgah. In 2003, he was ordained as a deacon and assigned to pastor Morris Chapel C. M. E. Church in Somerville, TN. In 2004, he was ordained an elder. He would later pastor the historic Martin Memorial Temple C. M. E. Church and pastored part of 2015-16 in California. He was named the pastor of Greenwood C. M. E. in 2020. Additionally, Rev. Boyd worked at the Shelby County Assessor’s Office for twelve years, as a special education teacher at George Washington Carver College and Career Academy, as a behavioral specialist at H. O. P. E. Academy at Juvenile Court, and for Memphis-Shelby County Schools District as the homeless and foster care advisor. Additionally, Rev. Boyd served in many civic and community capacities. Rest: On October 8, 2022, Rev. Boyd received his rest and was called to his eternal home. In the words of Wes Ellis, “he is in Heaven living in a mansion with God.” Memories: Rev. Boyd leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Ebony Boyd; three beautiful children, Willie Buck Elbert Boyd III, Wes-Ellis Hamilton Boyd, and Mina Elyse Gianna Boyd. He also leaves a loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Mozella Boyd; three siblings: Nichelle (Isaac) Robinson, Tiffany Boyd, and Regina Boyd (who preceded him in death). He also leaves his mother-in-law, Mrs. Myra (Donald) Frost; two sisters in law: Mia Burt and Madison (Dwight) Waddell; five nieces (Erianna, M’Sara, Gabby, Kaia, and Paisley) and three nephews (Prentiss, Marcus, and Richard). He also leaves a host of very special uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives to cherish his memory and too many friends and extended family to list. To know Rev. Boyd was to love Rev. Boyd. He is described as caring, a beloved pastor, community leader, irreplaceable, loved, never met a stranger, powerful in the pulpit, humble, committed, and dedicated to his work and family by those who knew and loved him. We will all remember and cherish the life that he lived well and will rejoice that he has found his rest.

The family has scheduled a public viewing for Friday October 14th, 2022 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Mt Pisgah C.M.E. Church 2490 Park Ave. The service of celebration will be Saturday 11 a.m. October 15th, 2022 at Mississippi Blvd Christian Church, 70 N Bellvue. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery 5668 Poplar Ave.

Service of celebration will be streamed live via Mississippi Blvd Facebook page.
