Ronald Spearman Johnson, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was born to the late Ernest Frank and Mamie Spearman Johnson on September 16, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the middle child who marched to the beat of his own drum. He was the life of family gatherings and he never met a stranger. He loved his family especially the grandchildren and there is nothing that he wouldn’t do for them.
He attended Memphis City Schools, graduating from Melrose in 1963. He also attended Tennessee State University and Memphis State University Law School. He served a 2 year stint in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Professionally, Ronald was a Shelby County Public Defender and later a Judicial Commissioner in the first group of commissioners. He retired in 2010.
Ron never called attention to himself. He tried to stay in the background. He was willing to do whatever he could for those whom he came into contact. He loved shopping for bargains, never willing to pay regular price for anything unless it was absolutely necessary.
Ronald transitioned from earth to reward on March 6, 2025. Celebrating his life are his wife of almost 49 years, Tommie Green Johnson; his daughter, Kyla Lynniece Johnson( Alfred lll); and his grandsons Alfred Ronald IV and Joshua Kyle Johnson. He also leaves 3 brothers Ernest Johnson lll (Anita)of Manassas, Virginia; Eric Johnson of Dayton, Ohio; and Larry Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee. He leaves his nieces Latonia Young, Stephanie Watson (Larry), Erica Johnson, Melanie Green, Jazmyne Green Fosha (Stephen). He leaves his nephews Ernest Johnson III (Romel), Eric Johnson II, Oscar Green III, Harry Green II, and Anthony Green II. His only sister, Delores Young, preceded him in death. Many other great nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends survive.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 10:00am- 11:55am with a Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00noon both will be held at RS Lewis & Sons 3651 Austin Peay Hwy, Memphis, TN 38128
