Steven Fitzpatrick Pettigrew was born on October 17, 1970, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the first of four children born to Alonzo and Fannie Pettigrew. He attended school in the Pine Bluff School district, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1989. He went on to receive an associate degree in Information Technology from the Arkansas College of Technology. He also continued his education toward his bachelor’s degree at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. From there, he went to work for IBM.
As a child, he was easy going and always tried to do the right thing. He was the most obedient child one could ask for. As a young person, he played the cello for several years. When he put the cello down, he picked up the basketball which he thoroughly enjoyed and played every chance he had. At about twenty-one years of age, he took an interest in mixed marshal arts.
Steve’s absolute favorite pastime was watching his sons play organized sports. He was front and center at every game. He also loved barbequing and thought of himself as a pit master, although he was not. However, he could grill delicious ribs, lamb, chicken, and veggies. The boy could also cook a mean pot of collard greens and bake an absolutely delicious pound cake. With Steve and his buddies, it was always a matter of who could share the best story, sometimes with the occasional embellishment.
As an avid bible reader, Steve encouraged his sons to do the same. They all enjoyed their spiritual discussions. He enjoyed attending services at both Greater Memphis Pentecostal Assembly and Life Church.
In furthering his career, Steve became a master black belt in Six Sigma. This allowed him to travel the world improving quality and efficiency at large corporations. His travels took him to places like Amsterdam, Paris, Singapore, England, Germany, and various parts of the United States.
Steve passed away peacefully on September 22nd, 2023, at 12:45 pm lovingly surrounded by his immediate family. He was preceded in death by one brother, Carlos Edward Pettigrew.
He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: two sons, Steven Alexander Pettigrew and Spencer Conrad Pettigrew; his parents, Alonzo & Fannie Pettigrew; his brothers, Gary Paris (LaJuana Paris) and Christopher Pettigrew (Isabel Pettigrew); his sisters, Tara Insalata (Ken Insalata) and Sherri Pettigrew Dean; special friends, Aleta Boyd and Duane Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless family and friends.
A service of rememberance is scheduled for Saturday September 30, 2023, 2pm at R. S. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home 3651 Austin Peay Hwy.

In loving memory of Steve, a vibrant soul who brightened lives every day. His boundless energy and captivating stories made work a joyous place. Steve's ability to master anything he set his mind to was truly remarkable. Laughter followed him everywhere, making every moment unforgettable.
He cherished a laid-back and peaceful existence, reminding us to savor life's simple pleasures. Though his departure is a profound loss, take solace in the belief that Steve has embarked on a new journey, where he'll continue to share his stories and bring laughter to those he meets.
May God rest his soul, and may we find comfort in the knowledge that we'll meet again in heaven. Kimberly
I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Steve's absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. During this difficult time, may you find strength in the love and cherished moments you shared with him. Lean on the support of friends and family, and may you eventually find peace and solace in the beautiful memories you hold dear.
I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Steve for about 7 years in the late 90's and early 2000's. Being around him was always fun and he had a way about him that made everyone in the room smile and laugh. I'll never forget the day when he, James, and I tried to playfully drown each other in my backyard pool. Needless to say, we were thoroughly enjoying some adult beverages that sunny day. I could hardly stop laughing and just the memory of that day still makes me smile. Goodbye my friend. You'll always be in my heart. My thought and prayers are with your family now. David.
Steve was such a kind gentle man with a big heart and and even bigger smile. Always full of like and laughter. We talked and laughed every time we saw one another and he will be missed dearly. Steve loved his boys and spoke highly of them. My deepest condolences to his family. Latundra

My overwhelming thoughts are with Steve's Sons and his family. In 1999 I moved my family to Memphis for a new job. I met Steve on Day 1 at work and he immediately welcomed me into not only work but his life. We became quick friends and I was fortunate to work and hang out with him for many years. Have some really good work and life stories that will allow me to keep his memory alive. He really was a special person and we lost a good one.
Our staff will continue to keep your family in our prayers. We thank you for allowing us to serve your family.
